Chapter 1

I'm running as hard and far my legs could carry me. Running away from the creatures that turned my world upside down. The creatures that we call... Zombies.

I finally spot the tree that I have been camping out in for the past few days. The Zombies are less then twenty feet away from me. I climb up the tree. On my second step I feel something grab my foot.

I turn, look, and see a Zombie holding my foot. I look at its disfigured head and body. The pale eyes and pale skin that always keep me up at night. The screeching sound of its voice that scares me to death every day.

No second longer I grab my machete and slice its hand clean off and continue to climb. I sit on the branch that I have been sleeping on. I take deep breaths trying to breath in the oxygen that was taken out of me during my run.

I see four Zombies and the one with one hand still trying to reach me so they can turn me into one of them. I grab my bow and arrow. I aim and shoot them one by one in the head. Ending the undead. I jump down from the tree and retrieve all of my arrows sticking out of its head.

I look around making sure there are no other Zombies walking around. They are attracted to sound. That's why I use a bow and arrows. I have a Glock 43 Sub-Compact Semi-Automatic Pistol. I only use it if I get surrounded by a lot of Zombies. Thankfully I haven't used it yet. If I did it would probably attract more Zombies because of the loud sound. It was my father's...

I walk back to my traps to see if I caught any food. I would have checked earlier but stupid Zombies wanted to eat me. I walk back remembering my dad teaching me how to set traps for small animals like rabbits. My brother, John would go with my dad and I to go hunting. That's how I learned how to use a bow and arrow.

I spot my trap and see dinner. I can't go to a Walmart or to the nearest store anymore since there are Zombies probably inside. When I need something I go find a store. Go in and come out as quickly as I can. So I basically live off the land in the woods of Texas.

I grab my rabbit and head back to my tree. I set the rabbit down and start to make a fire. I prepare the rabbit like my dad showed me with a knife. An hour later I finally have dinner

I'm sitting in my tree tied up so I don't fall when I'm sleeping. After thirty minutes trying to sleep I decide to look at the stars that light up the night sky. I remembered when I lived in Houston I didn't see this many stars because of the lights in the city.

I miss my home, school, friends, and especially my family. I look up at the sky again and look for the brightest star. In my mind I make a wish. Wishing that my family and everyone who was in my life to come back and have things back to normal.

Just thinking about them made me feel a tear come down my face. I take a deep breath to make me calm down before I start bawling. I can't be weak. I need to be strong. That's the only thing keeping me alive.

☆☆☆

I wake up to a lovely sound of a bird chirping and the warm spring air. I sit there for five minutes trying to keep myself awake. When I start to get down from my tree. I hear a snap!

I look in all directions trying to find the source of the sound. I finally lay my eyes on a figure. You know what it is? A Zombie. I grab my bow and quickly climb off the tree. Once I land the Zombie turns towards my direction and starts to walk slowly to me I like I'm dinner.

I notice it's a little girl with blonde matted hair and pale eyes. Just by looking at her I imagine her how she looked like before she turned into a Zombie. She was probably a cute little girl who smiles and laughs alot. One day being a beautiful woman.

I push those thoughts aside and remember one thing... she is a Zombie. She's not that pretty girl who smiles and laughs alot. She's a monster. I walk towards the monster not reaching for my arrow but for my knife instead.

Once I reach the Zombie I put my hand on its forehead and watch as its arms try to reach me. I raise my knife in the air and stab it in its skull. I pull my knife out and watch as it falls onto the ground.

I walk away wondering how many times I've killed a Zombie. When this Apocalypse happened I would keep track of how many I killed. After a while I don't care how many I kill. I just forget to count. There has been so many that I have killed that I've lost track.

In the past year I've killed more Zombies than I've seen humans. I walk to my tree and pack my stuff wondering if I will ever see a human again. A kind human. When my family was alive... we encountered people who were insane.

When ever we crossed path with a person the only thing he or she wants is our supplies. They would even fight you for it. When you meet a person who was going through the same thing as you, you would think they would help you like you would help them. But not anymore. Now it's survival of the fittest.

I grab my left over dinner and start eating with all of my stuff packed. Walking into whatever direction I think I will see a human again. Hoping that I am not the only one alive.
