~Chapter 1
We rode in the car in silence while I figured out a plan. I already figured I would make Bemo stay in the car, she didn’t need to be involved while I sneak into the house. My plans to get in were perfect, I would cross a few yards in the process and climb the gate into the back yard. Following the side of the house, I would turn and be right in front of my old window. Opening the window, I will break in and take Grace with me.
Figuring out my plan, I looked through the passenger window. As I watched, the sky went from darkness to light, as the moon came through the clouds. Bright moon light shone around us, engulfing us in its wake. It was beautiful, in a strange way.
When Bemo started slowing down the car; I noticed how far she parked away from the house, She parked a couple houses down. I looked at my old house, it was still the same as I left it. I noticed the tree in the front yard, my memories flowing in front of my eyes. My memory from the past replacing the present, remembering when I was little, with my father.
"Daddy!!! Let’s play hide and seek... Please...” I begged my father, giving him my cute face. It always worked for everything I ever wanted. Sitting on the step, he looked over his newspaper at me. glancing at me seriously, seeing my puppy dog face he smiled. Aaron folded his newspaper and sat it down. I smiled at him while he put his elbows on his leg and looking at me between his hands; smiling lovingly at me.
"Okay... settle down. Now I will count to ten and you better hurry and hide." He said playfully. I giggled and ran away. I stopped and looked back at him making sure he wasn’t peeking. Aaron was closing his eyes. After a few seconds watching him, I felt satisfied and ran towards the tree in my front yard "one" I started climbing it. "Two" I was halfway up; something caught my attention, looking out towards the street. I stopped when I noticed the girl standing a few houses down. I watched as she stared at my father, then towards the tree. The women hair swayed in the breeze as she turned and walked the other way. Her hair was the color of gold reminding me of a halo. I watched her walk away, feeling a connection with this women. I wanted to yell for her to come back, I almost did until I heard my father saying "Ten, ready or not here I come." I still couldn't look away, curious of where she was going. Then I saw the...
"Romi!!” Bemo whispered worriedly, I left my memories –startled- to find myself staring at the tree. “Whats the plan??" Bemo asked. I looked at her, and then thought for awhile.
"I'm going to go in, and you'll stay here. Just in case anything we’re to happen, so you can get away." I told her firmly. I glanced back at the house to find a truck parking in front of my house. My stomach started to hurt, like it was telling me something bad was going to happen. I watched as a man got out, he didn't represent a guy wanting to talk with my mother, still watching as the man headed up the drive way.
"Rom..." I cut her off with my hand.
"I'm going in alone; I’m not getting you in trouble or hurt. If I'm not back in 15 minutes, leave and call the copes or something." I told her sternly.
I jumped out the car door before she could object and ran across the street. I got to the yards and ran threw the next two lawns. I was always a fast runner in school, I joined gymnastics and track, until Aaron died. Don’t think about that right now... I was on the last person’s lawn, when I saw my mom let the man inside. I hid behind the neighbor’s tree. I noticed the guy look both ways like he knew someone was watching him, than walked in.
When the door shut, I headed slowly towards the fence on the side of the house. I put my hands against the top and jumped over. My pant leg caught on the fence and ripped, making a loud rattle sound while I thudded to the ground. I froze, listening around me, When I head nothing I got up and checked my clothes. My black jeans were torn up to my knee, and I had a cut on my leg. Nothing horrible, I thought. So I ran sneakily towards the back yard of my house. Snap. I stopped, and felt sudden fear. I could feel my heart pounding, as I moved my foot and noticed the twig. It was nothing... I looked around me, when I saw the turn only a few inches in front of me. I slowly walked towards it, glancing to the right, making sure nobody was watching from the porch. Slowly I turned and was finally in front of the window. I looked around me again, nothing.
