Chapter One~ Just Friends?

Zenix's POV.

"Gene! Wait up!" I yelled, chasing after Gene as he walked towards the entrance of the school. "Next time don't be as slow." Gene said. I rolled my eyes and leaned up against the brick building. I scanned the crowd and looked for the final person to our trio. "Where's Sasha?" I asked. "She texted me this morning, she's sick.." Gene said, sticking his hands into his pockets. "Ok.." I muttered, looking at the ground, kicking at it lightly. "Eh, we can survive with out her for a couple of day." Gene said, leaning up against the wall beside me. I felt a small blush creeping on  face from him being so close to me. I did have a slight crush on him, but I've kept my feelings hidden ever since freshman year of high school. But it was getting harder and harder to do since we were becoming close as friends.
The school bell rang and I sighed. "What's the plan for today? Like are we going to skip or what?" I asked. "Follow me." He said. I couldn't tell whether he made a decision of he ignored my question entirely. He started walking off and I quickly followed, not wanting to be left behind. We walked all the way to the park where we normally go and sat beneath the bridge.
Gene was looking at his phone and I had my attention on mine, we completely were ignoring each other, but that's what we normally did when we skipped class. Well, except when Sasha and I would be screaming at each other, but Gene would always smack me lightly on the back of my head and tell Sasha to shut up. On many instances I thought Gene and Sasha were dating, which I would admit, would make me kind of sad, but they always did something that indicated them not dating, which was a higher relief on my part.
I had no idea whether or not Gene liked me back, I would absolutely love it if he did but it would also be weird, but in a good way if that makes since. "Hey, are you ok?" Gene asked, snapping me from my thoughts, only then I found that I was staring directly at Gene the entire time. I blushed and turned away. "Yeah, everything's fine, b-but I have a question.. Are you and Sasha like, dating?" I asked, I couldn't stop myself from asking the stupid question. "Pfft, no, we're just friends, we all are." Gene said, laughing a little bit. I looked down and laughed nervously. "Yeah.. Just friends.."
