It took quite some time before Michael was released from hospital and he was to have so much physiotherapy which he hated it was just like gym, but much more intense. He hated it every minute of it but he knew he had to persevere it was the only way he could regain his strength. For the first few weeks he found it really hard and rarely saw anyone except for physiotherapists, doctors and family.
He had made really quick progress as he had it all to do, just learning how to walk took all of his strength and concentration, but once that was mastered there was no stopping him and everyone at the hospital were amazed by his speedy recovery. Finally one Saturday his Dad said "how would you feel if I said you could go and visit Stuart" , Micheal's eyes lit up and he said "you bet!!" "I saw Stuart about an hour ago" his Dad said "and he’s well up for it, give me a minute and I will take you to see him." It took Michael a while to get ready as he was still a little slow, but he was still ready before his Dad was. Stu saw them arrive and was at the door in a flash, "good to see you Mike it’s been a while", "hey it hasn’t been all that long you ape!" responded Michael. Stu’s parents were also delighted to see him as they considered him to be a second son. After they had chatted to him for a while they said you two have some catching up to do, "yeah" said Stu "how good are you with stairs Mike?" " I’m not that much of an invalid" was Michaels response," okay then my room."
Michael had never seen Stu’s room so tidy there was nothing out of place it was neat and tidy. "What the heck have you done" said Michael "your room has lost all of its character, was this done under threat or what he laughed." "I need to talk to you seriously" said Stu, "me to" said Michael, but Stu got in first saying "what happened after you left me?" "Well you were right in what you said to me in hospital I was trying to beat my record for the ride around town", "oh my god! you remember what I said to you that day", "yes and I will never forget those words all of those words that you spat at me that day" he looked seriously at Stu, but then grinned at him saying "it was just what I needed I was so deep."
Micael continued "you see from being down after that argument with Jane stupid though it was, spending time with my best friend and the benefit of Hayley I left you in a really good mood. I would have smashed my record if it hadn’t been for that truck." "Can I ask you Michael what went through your mind in those last seconds after seeing the truck?" "Well to be honest one thought and one thought only, I’m dead." There was a pause, a very long pause before he continued, "but I’m here so I’m not dead I made it through." I can’t tell him everything that happened thought Michael not yet he’d think I’m mad. Stu continued "were you told how long you were out? and what was it like and what did it feel like?" "Whoa!" said Michael "one thing at a time there were so many things and some I don’t think you will fully understand." "Try me" said Stu "I think I know some if only a minute part of it," "What do you mean?" (testing his friend) ""well this may sound stupid but you called out to me not once but twice in succession the second time very loudly I may add". "Where were you then? when I called out to you" (still searching his friend) "who's asking the questions here?" said Stu? "No I need to know" said Michael "and I’m curious." "Okay I feel like an idiot though I had ridden out to where we together last, your thinking spot and before you ask me why I’ll tell you. You see I was so afraid that I was going to lose you, you were dying and I felt I just had to go to the last place we were together and were happy." That sort of confirmed it for Michael. Michael just stared at Stu and before Stu could say anything else Michael put his finger to his lips and then responded "alright, alright you don’t have to tell me twice."
The colour drained from Stu in shock" it did happen!!" he shouted at Michael. "Yes I’m sorry my friend I just had to be sure it was real and not some dream." "That’s really wild!!" said Stu "how did you do it?" "I don’t know" said Michael shaking his head "I think I was guided." "No way!!" exclaimed Stu "it must have been that other person that was with you who helped you, who was he?". It was Michael’s turn to be shocked, "you saw him?? what was he like?" "I couldn’t really see him just a shape I’m afraid" said Stu, "you mean you couldn’t see him at all", "no" Michael replied "I was hoping you could have told me. To me it was just a voice, but this is so weird and it’s so difficult to explain and I’m still trying to understand it myself, but what of Hayley tell me what you’ve done and how you did it?" "Well as much as I’m your best friend and you know I would do anything for you and agreeing to set you two up I must admit I didn’t have a clue when I left you, but I saw her within minutes of leaving you. I had no plan nothing so I just came out with it, the crush you had on her," "you’re really subtle Stu aren’t you?" "Hey you may be cramping my style but it worked didn’t it? Then your accident well that was it, every time I saw her after that it was how’s Michael doing etc". Looking at his watch Stu said "she should be here shortly." "What!!" said Michael "I’ve no idea what to say to her, I’m not prepared for this he groaned." "Just be you and I’ll be here for a little while in any case to help the conversation along if need be and in any case you can’t run away can you?" "You’re a swine but a friend and depending on how this goes I could hate you for a long time," "it’s too late anyway" said Stu "she’s walking up the drive now" as he leapt up to go downstairs to let her in.
