"Good luck," Jack said and hugged Mark.
He walked into the room.
"Hi Nana," Mark said, tearing up.
"Hi, Markie," She said.
"I'm going to miss you," Mark said.
"We'll see each other again,"
"But what if we don't?"
"We will, Mark, eventually,"
"Okay," He said. He was full-on sobbing now.
"Hey, Mark," She said, pulling out a box. "Here. Don't open it until I'm gone,"
There was a comfortable silence between them. It was then when Mark pulled out his phone. He went to YouTube and pulled up his Nana's favorite song. Doubt by Twenty One Pilots.
"D-don't f-forget a-," Mark started.
"Bout-bout-bout-bout-bout me," Lola finished.
They laughed. This was why Mark loved his grandmother as much as he did. They were able to share moments like this, always.
"I know my soul's freezing, hell's hot for good reason," Lola started, singing Mark's favorite Twenty One Pilot's song.
"So, please, take me," Mark finished. "I can't believe you learned the words."
"Of course. I love Blurryface. All the songs," She said, talking about their newest album. "Oh, I almost forgot," She said taking a locket off the side table. "Give this to Sean. William McLoughlin, that is."
Mark was confused. He knew Jack's middle name, but he hadn't mentioned it while introduced himself. "How did you know his middle name?"
"I was friends with his parents when he was born," She explained.
"Was?"
"Well, they died a year and a half ago,"
"Oh," Mark said, feeling sympathy for Jack. "How?"
"By...," She said, pausing to think. "By car crash. If I remember correctly."
There was another comfortable silence, interrupted by Lily this time.
"Come here, Mark," She said with her hand out stretched for him to take.
He took it, "Yeah?""I'm glad I fell," She said.
"Glad?" Mark asked.
"Well, it turns out, Mark, they found out I have cancer,"
Mark started to cry again, "Where?"
"Brain,"
"N-nana," Mark said, realizing there was no chance she could live after this. This was it.
"I know Markie," Now she was tearing up.
The heart beats were falling. Thump....Thump-Thump......Thump.........Thump.........Thump-Thump.... Lola squeezed Mark's hand with her last bit of strength. Thump..........Thump.........Thump....
"I love Lily, I love Thomas, Tell them,"
Mark nodded his head, not talking, crying.
"But most of all," She said, full-on sobbing.
Mark looked up at her. Thump..................Thump-Thump..................Thump....... He kissed her forehead.
"I love you, my little M-Markimoo, so much" She laughed quietly at that nickname. The last time she called him that, was when he was two years old.
Mark laughed too. "I love you, Nana, more than anything."
They hugged. Thump....................Thump-Thump.............................................Thump.............Thu-
That was when Lily, Tom, and Jack, who were waiting outside, heard a man screaming, "No! NO! Nana! NANA! COME BACK! DON'T GO! NANA! PLEASE! Please...Please...Nana!"
Lily and Tom ran into the room. Jack behind them. The thing they heard after Mark screaming, was the monitor. The flat-line. Doctors ran in and pulled a sheet over Lola.
"NANA! I LOVE YOU TOO MUCH! YOU CAN'T LEAVE ME! YOU C-CANT! NANA! Nana!"
That was when Lily pried Mark from the bed so that they could take Lola away.
Jack was the first one Mark hugged. The only one Mark hugged. It was a long hug. Mark took Jack's hand and ran him out of the hospital. Jack caught up to him and he had a box. Jack didn't know that box had his locket in it. They ran five miles away to a park.
Mark sat on the grass. Jack did the same. Mark opened the box. He didn't speak. He didn't look at his present. He took out the locket, and give it to Jack.
Jack looked confused.
"N-n-n-na-a-ana," he mumbled quietly.
Jack opened it, to see a picture of himself as a baby with his parents. "They were friends?"
Mark nodded.
They hugged and fell asleep in the grass, with their arms around each other.
