The Metal Tail

Prologue

As Vincent got up for the last day of year 12, he was feeling ready for the rest of his life. He got ready like he has for years. The routine, which he had grown bored of, felt exciting. Having a shower, getting dressed, having breakfast, brushing his teeth and finally going to school.

As he opened the car door his twin sister, Beth, jumped on his back. She did this every time he tried to leave her at home. A few years ago his parents were involved in a car crash where both his mother and father died, leaving only Vincent and his sister living together, but living alone together has only made them closer as siblings.

He threw her off."Ow!"Beth said rubbing her head, "You were the one who was trying to leave me at home on our last day at school!"

"Why don't you catch the bus," Vincent said stretching out his back," or better yet get a job and buy a car!"

"But, I like you taking me to school," she said with a cheerful smile that she always has when she wants her way, knowing that he won't say no, "I like talking to you. I know you won't say no."

Sighing, he said," Are you ready?"

"I knew you wouldn't say no, you just love me too much," she said.

"Hurry up before I change my mind," he said tapping his foot and crossing his arms.

As she ran inside to get ready, Vincent said to himself,"How is she going to cope when she leaves home?"

"I heard that," she called out," and I'm never leaving you!"

"Hurry up!"he called out,"I need to get to school and get the classroom ready for our leaving party!"

Every class, at Vincent's and Beth's school, in year 12 has a party for the departing students. Vincent, Beth, and two others are all that remain of the student council, because everyone else has already left for university, leaving them to prepare the party for the year 12 who haven't left already.

"I'm ready, let's go," she said coming out in a large, baggy Ironman shirt shorts and 3DS in hand.

"Fine, let's go," he said sighing.

When they got to school, Vincent went to the room where the party was going to be, Beth followed behind playing Pokemon. He saw that the other two had already started putting up the decorations.

"Hey," Vincent said to Holly, who was putting up a banner, at the of a ladder,"Have you seen John? He was meant to bring the food."

Beth sat down at the table, not looking up from her game once.

"Hey, Vinny. Yeah, he said to give him a call when you arrived," she said as she pulled out her phone and started talking to John.

Vincent started to unpack some paper plates that he brought with him when he noticed that Beth wasn't helping.

"Beth, if you're not going help at least go outside and get some fresh air and sun," he said.

"K," she said sighing. She got up, opened the door, went outside and sat on a bench all without looking up.

John ran in yelling out, panting,"Where is he? Did you tell him about the surprise? Oh."he noticed Vincent," You didn't hear anything."
