Mihael heard pounding at his door, it sounded frantic and harsh. He got up and opened the door to see a man holding his arm as blood poured from it.
"Please, You have to help me! I was walking down the street and some guy bit my arm!" he said quickly, Mihael stared in shock before ushering him inside. The man stumbled but remained on his feet. Mihael wrapped a towel around the bite wound and reached for his phone with his free hand he noticed that he had received a text but decided that this man's injuries took precedence over his messages. He dialed 911 and held his phone to his ear with his shoulder and returned his hands to attempting to slow the blood rushing from the wound.
"There are currently no available operators to take your call, please hold," a recording said causing Mihael to curse loudly. He pulled the man to his kitchen sink, turned on the tap, and thrusted his arm under the flowing water.
"When did the guy bite you?" Mihael asked the man.
"About three minutes ago," That explained why he was stumbling "You were the only one to answer the door."
"Keep your arm there, I'll be right back," Mihael said as he released the man's arm and scrambled to his bathroom to get rubbing alcohol. He rattled through his cupboards until he found some. He rose to his feet and heard a crash from the kitchen. Mihael full on sprinted into the kitchen but when he got there he found his efforts had been in vain as the man now lay dead on the floor.
He felt tears well up in his eyes but he blinked them back before they could fall. The red haired man dropped to his knee and checked the man's neck for any sign of a pulse. There was nothing. He realized he had left his phone in the bathroom and turned to get it. That was his first mistake. All of a sudden there was a large weight on his back and he whipped around fast enough to throw it off.
What he saw behind him baffled him for a moment. The man fumbled to get back at Mihael. He had sickly white skin and was horribly coordinated but still moving. It was impossible though, the man was dead, he was sure. The un-dead man lunged at Mihael with a surprising amount of force and the red haired man was knocked to his back using as much strength as he could to keep the man away from him as the man repeatedly attempted to bite and scratch him.
For once he was glad for the large mess in his apartment as he reached to the side and grabbed an umbrella that was left leaning against the wall waiting to be used, and it would be. Mihael used it to hit the man across the face as hard as he could. Fortunately, as hard as he could was enough to knock the guy off him but it wasn't enough to knock him over. Mihael jumped to his feet and brandished the umbrella threateningly.
The man ignored the umbrella and went straight for Mihael's extended arms. Mihael flinched back and swung the umbrella, striking the man across the face hard. The hit didn't deter him and he was on the attack again almost immediately. As the guy lunged at Mihael, he thrust his umbrella forward and was met with the disgusting sound of the umbrella piercing his chest. First instinct was to distance himself from the umbrella and man but the fear of losing his only leverage kept Mihael's hands firmly on the handle.
Sudden realization hit him and one word repeated in his head. Zombie. He used both hands to keep the zombie at umbrella distance as he glanced around for something to save him. The kitchen door was still open and he spotted a knife on the counter. Using the leverage gained from the umbrella between them, Mihael twisted around to switch their positions so he was standing in the doorway of the kitchen with one hand reaching for the knife behind him.
The zombie continued to lash out on the end of the umbrella and Mihael's searching hand grew more frantic. Finally, his fingers closed around the handle of the knife and he shut his eyes tight. He swung the knife through the air and plunged it into the zombies head.
