Geoff gave up on waiting for Mihael to text back. He had a horrible habit of completely zoning out when playing video games and missed most of Geoff's texts and calls anyways. Yeah, that was the story he would go by to convince himself Mihael wasn't dead. He grabbed a small duffel bag from his closet. If Mihael wasn't going to answer his text, he would just have to go find out if he was okay himself.

Geoff dug through his cupboards to find non-perishables, and he grabbed granola bars and some cans with pull tabs. He didn't know how long he would be gone after all. He went into his bathroom and got bandages and medical tape. He also grabbed a lighter and a flashlight along with extra batteries. Finally, he grabbed his NES controller rapier. A fan gave it to him after they found out about his swordfighting hobby. He sheathed it and strapped it to his waist. He grabbed his phone and keys as an afterthought. So with all his supplies he was off to Mihael's house.

The streets were empty. Geoff had expected anarchy and discord, but it appeared that he was the only one who hadn't listened to the news and stayed inside. On one hand he was glad that there wasn't war in the city, on the other hand being all alone walking down the sidewalk was absolutely terrifying. Part of him wanted to go back to the safety of his apartment but he needed to make sure Mihael was okay. So he pressed on, his hand always ready to grab his rapier if need be.

He had long since memorised the shortest route to Mihael's apartment building and was glad that there were few alleys along that path. However there were a few and Geoff took extra care when passing them. One alley took him straight to the backdoor that never locked properly. He could go through and get to Mihael's place in a matter of minutes from where he stood around the corner from the alley.

Geoff walked carefully around the corner and into the alley. He tread as quietly as possible as he made his way towards the backdoor. He heard something. Geoff froze in his place and held his breath. He heard it again. Groaning. Groaning from one of those creatures. Slowly, Geoff turned his head towards where the sound was coming from and he saw it. Gross, vile, horrible, terrifying. All words that nicely described the scene before him. One of the zombies was crouched over a dead man, enjoying a nice meal of the guy's intestines.

Geoff snapped out of his fearful daze and began slowly backing out of the alley. He would have to take the long way 'round. He walked slowly and made sure not to step on anything that would make noise. The zombie didn't even seem to notice him until his phone made a very loud ding. Of course Mihael chose to text back now.

The zombie turned and looked at him. Geoff stood frozen with fear. The zombie got to it's feet and began lumbering over to him. His hand shot to his sword and pulled it. It stayed firmly in it's sheath. Now Geoff wasn't one to swear, not real swear words at least. He didn't like to swear too often, but sometimes, things just got so screwed, that he needed to cuss. This was one of them.

"Mother fucker!" Geoff yelled as he desperately tried to free his rapier. He backed away from the approaching zombie. He gave up on his rapier as his back hit the wall. Geoff looked around for anything he could use as a weapon. His eyes landed upon an empty wine bottle to his left. The zombie was about three feet away so Geoff ducked to his side and grabbed the bottle by the neck and spun on his toes to face the zombie again. It pounced and Geoff swung, the bottle broke, the zombies head dented but it didn't die properly. It did fall on it's stupid face though.

Geoff stepped on the zombie's back to keep it down and brought the sharp edges of the broken bottle into the things head, effectively killing it. He stepped away from the dead zombie and looked up to see a small hoard round the corner, blocking him from going to Mihael's apartment. It was a fairly small group but definitely too much for Geoff to fight with just a broken wine bottle.

Geoff turned, and Geoff ran, and the zombie followed as best they could. Geoff found himself regretting not exercising more. He was winded too quickly and he knew he couldn't run for very much longer. He needed a place to hide, quickly. Just then, he saw safe haven about a block down. The convenience store, he had a key to it! All the complaining he use to do about having to lock up almost every time he had a late shift was gone as he dug his keys from his bag.

Geoff ran faster than he ever had before and practically slammed into the door. He unlocked the door and slipped inside just as the undead hands grabbed at the back of his shirt. He pushed all his weight against the door to shut it and relocked the door against the reaching hands. Geoff turned around to see a small group of four staring back at him.
