Thea wasn't happy. She was smiling. But she wasn't happy. Neither was Lela. She could tell from her symbol.
Lela didn't come in for coffee that morning. So as soon as Thea got off of work that afternoon. She walked the block to Lela's house.
She marched right up to the door and banged on it. Real loud. The door opened. Lela poked her head out, eyes red and teary, nose and cheeks red, her hair up in a high pony tail. Thea pushed the door open, let herself inside, despite Lela's protests, closed the door and glared daggers at Lela.
She was wearing a pair of black shorts, and one of Thea's dark purple t-shirts, that was slightly to big on her small frame. She had black socks that rode up to her knees. Also Thea's.
Thea wore her white converse, white shorts, and a blue top, her hair down. Her symbol was growing sadder by the minute.
They just stood there, staring at each other.
"You haven't texted me in a week, you haven't called me in a week, you haven't gotten coffee in a week, and you haven't given me any confirmation that you were alive. IN A WEEK!" Thea yelled at her.
"I'm sorry..."
"Your sorry?!?"
"Yes..." Lela sounded so small.
"Well you wouldn't have to be sorry if you had just texted me 'hey I'm alive don't worry!" Lela's eyes watered.
"I think... I think you should go." Thea mentally smacked herself.
Lela needed her. Lela is her symbol and her symbol is helpless, and sad. So that means Lela is helpless and sad.
"Baby, I'm... Im sorry. I just. Need someone to blame. That shouldn't be you." Thea went to grab her hands. But Lela pulled her hands out of reach.
"Thea. You're not the only one who needs a venting point."
Thea sighed. Trying to smile.
"I'll go. But, I love you." Thea turned to the door.
Suddenly arms shot around her waist and a head dug it's way in between her shoulder blades.
"Don't leave me alone... They all left me alone. Don't leave me like they did..."
Thea again mentally kicked/slapped herself.
Lela's parents both left her when she was little. Then her sister and brother were adopted by different people. They lost contact for years until recently her sister was found dead and her brother is in jail for a crime his friend commited. Her adopted parents love her and all, but they are always gone on business trips. They must have been gone awhile.
Thea turned and engulfed Lela in her arms, Lela's arms stretched around her waist. Thea wrapped one arm around her shoulders and the other over her back. Her hand tangled in Lela's hair.
"I guess I can stay." Thea felt her symbol grow calmer. She felt Lela physically relax in her arms.
Thea lifted her off the ground and walked up the stairs to Lela's room. She dropped Lela on her bed and fell on top of her. Lela laughed and rolled Thea over.
"Now you're happy! See the wonders I can do?" Thea poked at Lela's sides and she squirmed.
"Stop! Aha- stooop!!" Lela laughed as Thea sat over her tickling her sides.
"Tell me you're happy!" Thea smiled. No longer upset herself.
"Okay! O-okay! I'm happy! I'm happy!"
Thea rolled over and pulled Lela into her arms.
Their legs tangled and Thea's arms wrapped around her. Lela played with Thea's hair.
Thea kissed her head and pulled her closer.
"I love you Angel. You're so perfect. You're the best person ever." Lela's face grew hot.
"I'm no angel. I'm definitely not perfect." Lela squirmed.
"Yes you are. Don't ever say you're not."
"Okay." Lela pulled herself closer to Thea.
"So, I felt you had a bad day today." Lela mumbled and closed her eyes.
"Yeah. But it's not important anymore."
"What ever you say love."
The End
