"Hey" I shakily said.
"Ezra? It's kind of late?" Spencer said with a worried tone. I glanced down at my phone to see the time. It was 12:30. I don't care what time it was, I needed some answers.
"Ya I know, I'm sorry, but can we talk?" I replied.
"Ok, sure. Let me just go grab my coat and my phone".
Just as she said that I noticed she was in a lavender colored camisoles and patterned pajama pants. I felt a wave of guilt go through me, but I had to tell myself that I needed the truth. She walked out slipping her arm through the swaying sleeve of her cardigan, phone glowing in hand. I gave the gesture to the road.
"Ok, Ezra what is it? It's the middle of the night, we're walking through the neighborhood and you dont look ok. What do you need to say?" Spencer said a bit harshly.
"Well damn, ok then. Spencer are you safe?" I muttered.
"What do you mean 'are you safe?' Yes I'm safe. Well, not at this second considering we could be abducted out here. Ezra, I still don't understand."
"Spencer are you really safe. I mean from certain people..." she instantly cut me off.
" Ezra, what the hell? Why do you all of a sudden care about me. Why are you worrying about this? Did someone come to you?"
" Spencer, I know about your parents." I whispered, hoping she wouldn't hear. She did. She stopped dead in her tracks and just glared at me.
" Fine Ezra. You win. My parents are being 'hunted.' Like they're some type of game animal that's always in-season. What more do you want from me?"
Tears now streaming down her cheeks, I pull her into an embrace. We stand there for a few moments, even though it seems like a lifetime. I just pressured my dream girl into spilling her guts about a topic that made her so vulnerable to people. So fragile. Like a sheer piece of glass in a hurricane. She felt so vulnerable, because of me. I put my arm around her shoulder and guided her towards the forest, where I had found a little hideout spot. Most likely a child's past treehouse it was the perfect getaway.
" Where are you taking me?" She asked, sniffling.
Opening the creeky door, and turning on the gas lanterns and silently said to myself hoping she would hear, "Somewhere where they won't find us, forever."
*A/N* SORRRRY IT TOOK SO LONG. I was kind of caught up in school work. We're writing memoirs in our english class and being the boring person I am I had to choose when I was depressed as my topic. That's kind of where I got the idea of vulnerability for Spencer in this chapter. It's not really long, but I wanted it up tonight and I was having a little writers block. "Saving Ezra" has 86 reads! I'm was like overwhelmed with happiness. Hope y'all like it, chapter six will be up asap! I promise!
Love,
Tori ❤️
