McKenna POV

The steady thump of my feet hitting asphalt invaded my thoughts. I was currently running from an Elgen guard. Ostin was next to me, but a small distance away. Explainable, since my body was white hot with heat.

We rushed into an alleyway, where I tripped.

"Whoa! A voice rang out. A pair of scrawny arms caught me by my shoulders. I felt the person shift under my weight.

"Who knew catching Damsels in distress would be so hard?" The person teased. I looked up to see:

A Mexican elf.

Or something similar to that.

Ostin rushed into the alleyway, and then froze. His eyes widened, and his jaw was open. I looked down and saw what his surprise was from. This boy's hands and arms should be severely burned.

Because he is touching my white-hot skin.

Leo POV

I looked down. Why did the boy gasp? Then I realized that her skin was an unnatural white, because of the heat radiating off of her.

I quickly set her back on her feet, and started pacing.

"Nice going! Now questions will have to be answered, and everything is just going to be fantastic!" I scolded myself. I then noticed that I had made a mini-rocket from my tool-belt. I stashed it in my pocket and turned back to the boy and girl. I heard shouting a way out of the alleyway. The girl's eyes widened, her skin quickly started losing it's heat, and she dragged the boy behind a dumpster.

I got the vague idea that they were hiding. Now I had to decide if I should help them. Or if I COULD help them. I got a quick idea, and I opened the lid on the dumpster. I started lightly sifting through the gross things on the top. About ten men wearing uniforms stormed into the alleyway.

"Hey you! What are you doing?" A tall man, probably the leader, said, a twinge of disgust in his voice.

I scratched my neck sheepishly. "Well, I kinda sorta threw away my mom's wedding ring, because I was trying to improve it. You see, it holds the diamond with suspension an-" I rambled, only to be cut off.

"Yeah, whatever kid. Did you see a boy and girl run by?" He ordered. Time to test my lying skills.

"You mean the girl with brown hair, and the boy with her?" I asked.

I could practically feel them stiffen behind the trash can.

"Yes. So where are they!" He shouted, hand inching towards his gun.

"They just ran out from behind a store, back the way you came." I said, adding fake fear into my voice. They ran off, and I never saw them again. After about 5 minutes, I peered around the corner, making sure they were gone. I stage whispered, "They're gone, you can come out now."

A nervous head peeked around the dumpster. After a second, both of them emerged. "Why did you help us?" The boy asked. I heard a roar in the distance, no doubt it was a monster coming after my supposedly taco-flavored hide.

Panicking, I stammered, "Look, I gotta go. But if you want a few answers," I paused, for effect, "Meet me in the nearby park. Tomorrow. At 8 PM."

With that, I took out the little rocket I built. Two handles ejected from the sides, and it blasted me on top of the building to my left.

"Lets see, mysterious, check. Vague, check. Awesome, check!" And with that, I left.
