do you think all lowercase is hard to read? I was rereading for mistakes and I kept losing my place bc of the lowercase lmao. I promise the entire story won't be like this & eventually
it'll turn into normal writing xo
~~~~~~people are beginning to fear me, i think. they distance themselves from me in school and whisper to their friends in the hallways. i feel terrible. they don't believe i have feelings, so they think they can demean who i am. it's obvious why they're afraid. i'm different. people don't like different, and they especially dislike my kind of different.
i remember reading about people like me in a health book once.
"In the case of people for whom Color does not take over, they must eventually be sent to the Doctor to await further diagnosis. Only the occasional soul never in their life sees color, as it is very rare not to find Love. There are very few recorded occurrences of people never finding Love and seeing Color. These people are referred to as The Shunned and are shameful to the values we, as a society, have built. Thus, we mustn't pity them. As much as we may want to feel sorrow for the fate bestowed upon them, we are required to turn a blind eye and erase their existence from our minds."
it was more of a church sermon than something that should be in a health book. on that note, it sounds like a horrible thing to be telling young kids at all, let alone in a book, right? especially when innocent novels like Anne Frank and The Hunger Games are banned along with all the other old fantasy and nonfiction stories. but of course, why would the government want any of us to learn about our history or read things that warn about societies like ours being bad?
in case it hasn't sunk in yet, our own society isn't a very good one. in History class we learned about how the Love-Color duo was once just a way of bettering one's chances of finding a soulmate. now, the government has twisted it into something discriminatory to benefit itself. we live in fear until we see color, afraid of being cast out. nobody enjoys living each day in terrific horror, although they may act it. i can count the people who've spoken out about the government's strict ruling on just half of one hand.
in a world with millions asleep, I seem to be the only one awake. we're helplessly surviving in a dystopian society; which, in all irony, is a perfect fitting for someone who has little to no chance of ever falling in love.
