The warm rays from the setting fall sun sunk into the exposed skin on my legs, arms, and face. Yellow, orange, and red leaves gracefully glided down from the branches and found their new permanent home on the forest floor.
Fresh air pumped in and out of my lungs. Birds sang and flew from tree to tree. Leaves rustled, changing the way sunlight shined through their gaps. I reached my hands out and ran my finger tips along the bark of trees old enough to tell tales of time, feeling the rough dark brown cover that would protect them from the harsh cold winter.

I was taking pictures of the leaves, making my way through these woods I often occupied. I stood on a log, and that's when I saw her. I watched as she soaked in her surroundings, aura radiating happiness. Unzipping the case where my camera was, I picked it up. Looking through the little square and squinting my other eye, I took a picture of this mystery girl touching the trees. There was a look of peace in her eyes as she wondered up the trail, lost in her thoughts and feelings.

I was supposed to be meeting up with friends today in the park to hang out, discussing it previously at school earlier in the day. I rounded the corner to a hanger where we usually sit at and talk, but nobody was there. I thought that they possibly were in a different location, so decided to move on and continue looking for my friends.
Farther down the path to the next hanger, there still wasn't anybody there. With a long sigh, I still went on searching for them, eventually making my way almost around the whole park. I pulled out my phone to text one of my friends.
Me:
Where are you guys?I sat at an empty bench, crossing my legs. To pass the time, I picked up leaves off of the ground, tying the ends of their stems together. Once the chain of colorful leaves were long enough to almost touch my shoes, I put them down to check my phone. Still no message.
I felt so alone. Did I do something wrong? Did they become busy all of a sudden? I didn't understand why they would just leave me like this. That's when my phone vibrated against the chipped paint on the wood bench.
(y/f/n):
Hey (y/n). Sorry we couldn't make it. Homework and chores. You understand, right?Me:
Yeah, of course. That's okay. See you tomorrow at school! :)I stood up from the bench to walk back home. This walk wasn't a complete waste of time because it was a beautiful day I got to experience, and the weather was perfect. A giggle could be heard from up the hill I was walking on, and it sounded very familiar to me.
Head poking over the gravel path, I saw all of my friends laughing and sitting on a couple of benches under several willow trees. My chest tightened in sadness, eyes watering as the pain of them lying to me struck my feelings like a bullet. It was obvious that I wasn't wanted. "What did you tell her, huh?" one of them giggled. She recited her text word for word. "What an idiot." They all laughed.

With posture changed, she turned away, and walked with her head hung low. I could see that she was on the verge of crying. Curious as to why such a beautiful girl was so sad all of a sudden, I went to check out what had caught her eyes.
Replacing the spot she once stood in, I scanned the horizon, eventually noticing a group of obnoxious, cackling teenage girls and chuckling teenage boys. I frowned, interpreting in my own mind why she looked so down, and I couldn't just let her feel that way. I had to do something about it.
