I never had stag. I've also never attended one.
I know it's difficult to believe, but it is true. I've gotten to the age where a number of my friends are getting married and it's natural that I get invited to these. All invites have been turned down. Reason? Because Maine and I agreed that we both would not want to be part of anything like that.
She had a lot of friends, so she would get invited and she would have no control over what would happen. Our agreement is that she is not to be touched and would not take part in "naughty" games. I was close to begging that she don't attend any Bridal Shower with a stripper - but conceded that maybe she could watch if it would give us ideas for when we were already married.
But she wasn't able to stand it also. In one party, she called, frantic. "Pick me up here na, please?" I was there in less than 5 minutes, because I never really left their venue. I was just waiting at the parking lot.
For guys, it's more difficult because these things tend to be arranged as a surprise. I've been vocal that I didn't want one, especially one with strippers, but here I was being given one. I honestly didn't know. Mama Ten and Sam were panicking. Within a minute of finding out there would be those girls, I walked out. "Ihanda niyo yung sasakyan, aalis na tayo."
"Pero Alden, showbiz friends mo nag-ayos nito."
"Well, hindi sila kaibigan. Sinabi ko na --"
"Alden, may nag leak ng photo..." Kristoffer told me. "Naka-tag pa si Maine."
Lahat yata ng mura na natutunan ko sa buong buhay ko nasabi ko. I was dialing her number, and talking to him. "Pare, aalis na ako. Bahala ka na sa mga 'yan."
"Oo, pasensya na. Hindi ko alam talaga na may mga babae."
Maine picked up on the third ring. "Hello."
"Hi, babe. You were tagged daw sa photos?"
"Yes."
"Babe, I left agad as soon as I saw the girls brought out."
"Talaga ba?"
"Yes, babe. Are you crying?"
She sniffled. "Little lang. I was shocked kasi."
Fortunately, we were able to sort it out quickly. Pasalamat sila - because I was ready to break all showbiz ties that night if it jeopardized our engagement. Sam and Ms. Lites, with the support of Tito Sen, had a strong meeting with management the following day about it. My message was clear: my personal life is not to be messed with.
Well, I did have a Bachelor's Party pala, arranged by Kristoffer and my high school friends. They all came over to my house. The surprise was a love letter from Maine, and we spent the entire night.... Playing DOTA.
I still get ribbing about that incident and how "under" daw ako. Okay lang. Hindi naman si Maine Mendoza ang asawa nila.
