John's POV
I looked out at the dawn-lit meadow, I could see the forest to the right of me, amazon-green leaves in the trees, complementing the Eden-green grass surrounding me.
The sound of the dawn chorus filled my ears as I laid there, content. letting the music of the meadow take me away into my imagination. There was no running water in any close proximity but it was as if I could hear the babbling brook complete with the chirring grasshoppers and whirring dragonflies, swarming in the murmuring winds. The water plinking and ringing.
I opened my eyes again to find the unending, jewel-blue sky staring back at me. the dome of blue curving around me. I could barely make out the early stars glinting, winking at me.
I slowly sat up, leaning on my hands and saw a misty-eyed fox cub dash through my line of sight, I smiled at the creature, knowing it was born free and living free.
Suddenly something felt off, I can always tell when someone is looking over my shoulder. I felt goose bumps as someone sat behind me, my skin tingling, heart thumping.
"Hello EB." said a deep, but fairly young sounding voice. My eyes widened as I turned around to see a sight I have only ever dreamt of seeing.
"D-Dave?" I stuttered, completely taken by surprise. "You live in Texas...what are you doing her- God you're hot!" I exclaimed, my entire face immediately heating up. Oh lord, I probably looked like a tomato.
"Oh really?" You could practically hear the smirk in his voice. Well, I didn't need to, I could see it. "Well thanks Egderp."
"Hey!" I complained, crossing my arms and pouting like a child.
"Aww Egderp," he giggled, his voice then turning to a whisper, "let's do something about that pout shall we?" He slowly leaned closer to me, my breath hitching as his tickled my lips.
My eyes closed as his lips were about to touch mine...
My eyes fluttered open as I realised I was alone. I had fallen asleep while imagining the sounds of the babbling brook. Then I noticed that the clouds had started to cry. Pearls of rain were settled on the grass around me, dewdrops falling onto my face. The beads had soaked my clothing but I wasn't too cold. It was still relatively warm out so I was okay for now.
I looked out at the sunrise-gold, my eyes starting to fill with a salty liquid, beginning to overflow like a jug overfilled with seawater. I'll never meet him, what was I thinking? He is an internet friend, Egbert. I thought as I looked over at the setting sun. It was almost night now, the horizon seemed to be stitched with a line of silver. I felt the grass beneath me, soft, like a blanket of candy floss.
I stood up and turned around ready to go home when I bumped into a wall. Wait, what is a wall doing in a mean- oh. It was a human, that makes more sense. I couldn't make out their face but I could feel my eyes widen when I saw the symbol on his shirt. Then I slowly started to recognise the shades and platinum blonde hair.
"Your dad said you'd be here," whispered a young, but strong voice, "he also said you liked presents so I got you this." Dave said as he handed a red box to me, but I didn't care. I dropped it on the ground hoping it wasn't fragile. I tackled him in a bear-hug and laughed, no trace of the earlier tears remained, but I started to cry tears of joy.
"DAVE!" I shouted, practically bursting both of our eardrums. He just laughed.
"Well hello to you too, Egderp. That could have been fragile you know. It wasn't, but it could have been." He smirked. I couldn't see it though, ohhh no. You, could hear the smirk in his voice.
"Sorry," I told him, a sheepish look on my face, "I was just- I mean I- IwasexitedtoseeyoubecauseI'vebeenthinkingalotlatelyandI-" Dave cut me off.
"Woah there slow down John, I lost you when you started talkin' gibberish" Dave stated, his northern accent clear in the night air.
"Well, what I mean to say is, IwasexitedtoseeyoubecauseI'vebeenthinkingalotlatelyandI-"
"Egbert, Egbert, Egbert. Slow. Down." Dave said, although this time he had heard, though I didn't know it.
"Anyway it was nothing," I explained, "I was just happy to see you is all."
"Sure, sure Egbert, whatever you say," teased Dave, "let's get outta here. By the way, I'm sleeping at your place tonight. Bro suggested it and I asked your dad and he was fine with it." He took my hand, guiding me in the general direction of my house.
"Oh, okay... Cool," I breathed, trying not to hyperventilate, "How is Bro anyway?" I asked him, still struggling to act natural with him holding my hand.
"Eh, he's cool I guess. He and I are both getting out of the house tonight because Dirk's boyfriend Jake is staying the night." Dave shuddered. "They are so loud." he exhaled. John's eyes widened Dave's statement.
"Oh." John said, beginning to walk faster. Dave chuckled at John's innocence and sped up to match John's pace.
We walked in comfortable silence until we got to my house. "Got any AJ?" Dave asked. God, that boy was obsessed with AJ and Doritos. "Of course I do, Dave! Who do you take me for?! We've got Doritos too. The Egbert is always prepared." I smirked, but Dave soon stole my thunder, not that there was any in the first place.
"We'll see about that." He whispered seductively in my ear, sending shivers down my spine.
After that shenanigan the evening pretty much consisted of us both relaxing, eating, playing video games, and watching movies.
"Hey Dave did you want me to sleep on the floor and you take the bed?" I said because I knew our couch was as uncomfortable as hell.
"Nah, we can share if you want? I'm not going to kick you out of your own bed!" he replied. I was nervous but regardless of how I felt I said, "Sure! Why not?" Hoping I didn't sound too enthusiastic about it.
When we were in my room Dave suddenly asked, "Now why don't you tell me what you really said today?" I blushed at this.
"I was excited to see you because I've been thinking a lot lately and I think I might, kind of, sort of, really, really like you." I said now I was blushing even more than before, but then, of course, disaster struck.
"What the f***?! Ew! I can't believe this!!! You're a homo? Bruh, not cool bro!" He looked at me, he wore the most disgusted look I had ever seen. He revealed a knife from his back pocket. "You all deserve to die." He hissed, thrusting the knife into my torso. Everything went black.
I woke with a start, I began to scream and cry, but no one could hear me in the empty meadow. None of it had happened. I never woke up, it was all a dream. I don't know if I was relieved of devastated by this. I looked down at my phone as it vibrated, showing I received a message.
Sender: turntechGodhead
Receiver: ectoBiologist
Message: Sup bro, anything cool happen today?
I ran home and packed a duffle-bag, I would explain to dad later I couldn't take this anymore. I caught a taxi to the airport and took my savings with me. Dave knew I had been planning to come visit him for a few years now and I had enough for a one-way plane ticket, I didn't worry about getting back or how I would find Dave's house when I got there. I just got on the first plane I could, without a second thought.
