15 Goodborough Street. Melbourne, Florida. Saturday, June 14, 2025. 2:30 P.M.

Swaaaaaaaat!

The fly lay motionless on the kitchen table.

"Monica!  No!" shouted a voice from the doorway.  "What have you done?"

"I killed a fly."

Jeremy Cooker took a deep breath.

"It wasn't one of your flies, Hon," said his wife.

"I know dear, but.... but... but after all my training any dead fly rattles me."

"Well, I hope it didn't rattle you too much----- or else you won't be able to command your ship."

Jeremy smiled and kissed her.

"You would like that. Wouldn't you?"

"I sure would. I'd rather have you safe and sound here than on Abysmal 2 or wherever you're headed."

"The moon."

"Well the moon's kind of abysmal."

"It's kind of dismal."

"That too."

Jeremy's ringtone went off and he answered it.

"Cooker here."

Monica watched as her husband "a-ha'd" and "mm-hmm'd" and "uh-huh'd."

Eventually, he hung up.

"Well, dear.  Change of plans."

"You mean you're not going?"

"Oh.  I'm still going.  But not to the moon."

"Then where?"

"2016 H03."

"What kind of dumb name is that?"

"It's an asteroid orbiting the planet.  They want me to land on it."

Monica scowled.

"Look, it's no different than landing on the moon.  So the plan's the same----- mostly."

"Mostly?"

"Well, it is circling us.  But I'm surprised I'm heading there now.  The best time to land on it is in 2030."

"And that doesn't strike you as odd?"

"A little.  But I don't make the missions.  I only follow the orders." said Jeremy as he kissed his wife.  "I'm sure I'll be fine."

Monica crossed her arms.  "You better be----- because if you die I'll be very upset."
