After the last Chapter of 'The Ruby Circle'

Dimitri's POV

What Adrian and Sydney had just explained to us was...well, unbelievable. Olive –who had been Strigoi and then restored to a Dhampir by her sister, Nina, who was a spirt user, had had a child with another Dhampir. Nail. It was unbelievable because our race –Dhampirs, couldn't have kids with other Dhampirs.

Our kind had been created when Moroi –vampires who do age, and the sun won't kill but will itch and do need blood but just a bit to survive, had been involved with humans. We were hybrids. When the Moroi started believing it was no longer safe to be around humans that could experiment with them, they decided to be only with their own kinds. But they needed Dhampirs to protect them from the Strigoi- the evil kind of vampires who did kill for their blood. But Moroi with Moroi only created more Moroi. Dhampirs who got together soon realized that it was impossible for them to have kids.

Assuming it had to do with the fact that they were hybrids and so they ruled it off as Dhampirs not being able to have kids. When Moroi started getting interested in Dhampir women for their looks, they realized then that they could get pregnant, but only with Moroi men. So soon, Dhampirs were being created from Moroi affairs with Dhampirs.

Now, from what we all could understand, was that it had to do something with the fact that she had been restored. Like me. I had been turned Strigoi once. I hate remembering the time, but it is inevitable. Rose had done lots of research and had found a way to help me. Lissa, her best friend and now our Queen, is a spirit user, and when her friend told her what could be done, she jumped to the task, even though Rose didn't want her to risk her life. Rose was grateful when she had restored me.

But if what they were saying was true, then, well Rose should probably take a pregnancy test. We don't really use protection, as we just assume we can't have any kids. But with this news, well even though I would love the idea of being a father and especially with her, I know she is not ready to give up her career. Especially since she is so young.

We were both so stunned by the news, that even Rose, who was a very outspoken person, was quiet.

We went to our room that night still stunned over the news. Rose went towards the bed and let herself fall dramatically. She was facing the ceiling lost in thought. I went over to her and placed my hands next to her head on the bed, supporting my weight while I looked at her.

"You okay?" I asked.

She took a deep breath. Then letting it go she said, "I...we...well, we've assumed we don't need protection." I know what she meant, and it was true. We had just assumed.

The following day, I woke up to an empty bed. Last night it was Eddie's turn to look out, and as guardians, we would sleep all the time we could get too.

I got ready and then headed downstairs. Clearance was such a nice host, having so many people here not just eating all his food, but letting Moroi feed off his feeder. It was still early, so not everyone was awake. But Sydney was.

"Dimitri!" She said. I could hear worry on her voice, and that triggered my guardian mode on.

"What's wrong?" I asked looking all around the living room.

"Adrian is not here. I woke up and he was gone."

I felt confused. But then I relaxed.

"Rose is not here either. Maybe they went into town together. I know Rose wouldn't let Adrian go alone, especially after everything that happened."

Just then, Rose and Adrian entered the living room laughing. They stopped when they saw our faces; they truly were marked with worry.

"Oh hey guys," Adrian said. He walked over to Sydney, placing a couple of bags he had on a chair. "What's going on?"

"Nothing." I said, walking over to Rose. "We were just wondering where you were, can't blame us with everything that's happen on the last few weeks." I wrapped Rose in my arms.

"We're okay comrade." Rose said to me hugging me and then gave me a small kiss. She pulled away and turned to Sydney. "Well, Good morning Sydney, and you should know by now I would never let you become a widow so young and so early in your marriage." She walked over to her and gave her a hug. Then she said she needed to show me something before breakfast.

We went up to our room and she closed the door behind, locking the door.

She turned to me and told me to sit and wait, and then she went into the restroom, taking the bag she had with her.

A few minutes later she came outside holding a little stick on her hand. She placed it on the bed side table and came to stand in front of me.

"I went to buy a pregnancy test." She started explaining. She placed her arms around my neck and I automatically put mine around her waist.

"I think I would know if I was pregnant, but it's better to be safe." She gave me a small kiss. "Adrian was actually going downtown to buy stuff for Declan, so he offered a ride, while I offered protection."

"Why didn't you wake me, I could've gone with you." I said, and I heard how hurt my voice sounded. Yes, I knew she loved me and Adrian had moved on to marry Sydney and really loved her. But, well, they had been involved. I really never asked and she really never said if they were ever that intimate. I know he fed off her once, I remember those marks on her the day she was arrested. Not to mention, who ever saw them together, her buying a pregnancy test, and him buying clothes would only assume. And even if our own kind saw them, well it will be the same assumption. That's the only way Dhampirs could be created.

"Sorry," she said. I could see in her eyes that it hurt her to think she made me hurt. "You were so sound asleep, that I didn't want to wake you."

She kissed my forehead and then pulled away going towards the bed side table and grabbing the stick.

She brought it with her towards me and then looked down at the little screen.

Negative it read. She sighs with relief. I, on the other hand was a bit disappointed. I am ready to be a father.

"Oh comrade," she said placing her hand around my neck. "I have to admit, never in my life did I ever picture myself as a mother nor did I want it to, but when Adrian and Sydney gave us the news. Well, I had hope. Hope that maybe one day we can have a family of our own. I know how much you want a baby of your own, and well I wouldn't mind having your kids." What she was saying made me feel so happy.

"But, right now. Well, it is not ideal. First, I am so young. I basically just got to be officially a guardian. Second, everyone will think I cheated on you. Third, if and when they accept it is yours, well they would want to experiment, you know, wanting to know how? I understand Olive's wishes now. Plus, well, we have a reputation, one that will make it really hard for us to keep this a secret."

Rose had grown so much since I met her and also our age difference that I forgot she had indeed just graduated a year ago, and had taken her a while before she could be Lissa's guardian. Plus, I know how much she loves her career and that it would kill her not being able to protect Lissa, who was more than just her assignment. She was her best friend. Her sister.

But, she was also saying that she didn't mind being the mother to my kids. And that, well that filled me with so much joy. I know everyone practically treated us like a married couple, but I wanted to do things right. I wanted to marry her before we even started discussing kids.

I hugged her so hard and pulled her down to bed with me. I kissed her with so much passion and whatever seriousness Rose had, vanished and kissed me back, taking my shirt off as she did.

I trailed kissed from underneath her jaw, down to her collar bone to the edge of her shirt. I pulled away and tug at her shirt, and when she sat up, I pulled it over her.

We kept on kissing and touching and taking off clothes, and when we were finally naked, still kissing, she stopped. She gesture for me to move to the side so she could get out of bed and into the restroom. She came back with a box in hand opening it. Pulling out a packet and tossing it me. I took it and look at it. A condom. I chuckled and then unwrap it as she came back into bed with me.
