Fireboy

I discreetly made my way back to my room through the window, and I was about to drop straight onto my bed. At that moment, I realised if I could hurt Watergirl because we were of opposite elements,

I could probably burn this bed too.

So I didn't drop down onto the bed, but instead hit the very fireproof tiles of my flooring. Thank goodness my parents made the choice of cement tiles instead of wood. If we had wood, I would probably have burnt the house down, in a very not good way.

Similar to the way I had transformed, with the use of some magical willpower, I transformed back to my real form and looked at myself in the mirror. It was like nothing had changed at all.

Pfft, definitely didn't look like I had just fought some terrorising beast.

In fact, my hair looked neater than usual. Well, that's a win for me. I sat on my chair and continued to do the math homework that I was supposed to have finished like a long time ago, but, you know, life just came in the way.

I finished my work quickly, as math was one of my strongest suits, and I did a small happy dance in my room. Then, I realised I was being filmed by none other than my mother.

Yes, my mother.

You would think your sibling would be the one who would do stuff like that, but in this one-of-a-kind household, it was my mother. "Put away the camera mom!" I lunged at the precious device she was holding in her hand, but she moved away from me in a split second.

Damn, had to appreciate those taekwondo skills she obtained when she was younger. Her quick reflexes never faded away, even years later. "No can do, young man. That was such a worthy clip!" My mom said while smiling. I couldn't help but smile back at her. "Why where you so happy anyway?" she enquired, raising her eyebrows amusingly.

"I'm finally done with my homework! Now I can chill for the rest of the week." I replied to her query. "Ooh, that means we can spend some quality mother-son bonding time. Let me go and plan." And she disappeared as quickly as she came, closing the door behind her. I shook my head at my mother, smiling. Sometimes it felt like this house was just inhabited by two teens, not that I had a problem with it though.

I decided to take a book and start reading to finally chillax, but looks like the world was against this oh-so-beautiful plan. Because a yellow-orange portal appeared in my room.

Oh wait, correction, not this world, but Elementia.

Queen Vycelia had probably forgotton to tell us something, I speculated as I jumped into the portal. But of course, I locked my room door, just to be extra sure. And then I jumped in.

And I landed on the other side in a very unfamiliar place. I had somehow transformed into Fireboy on the way, and I saw Watergirl land at the same time as my in the corner of my eye. "What do you think she brought us here for?" I asked her and watched her just shrug, with a faraway look on her face. Looks like something was bothering here, but I didn't press for answers. I didn't really know her, after all.

"Welcome my children!" Queen Vycelia announced as she appeared out of nowhere. That wasn't new though.

Neither was her addressing us as her children.

"I called you guys over because its time for your first mission on Elementia! This was not planned, initially the official messenger was supposed to do it, but the poor child got sick with a serious case of hypothermia from her last journey! So I need you both to take this letter, and deliver it to the address written on it. I hope this is a good opprtunity for you both to explore Elementia too, because you'll be calling this place your second home in some time! It would be a shame if you didn't know your way here!" She said, and then she passed the letter to Watergirl, since it looked like it was made up of water, before vanishing off into god-knows-where.

"You ready for this?" Watergirl asked me as she looked at the address on the letter. "It says 10 Bottletree street, kesktee" she finished. "Huh, kesktee, I wonder what that means." I questioned. She shrugged but said "We'll find out eventually, but anyway, let's go!" she said. But we both stood rooted to the ground, because we realised we had a problem.

We had no clue on where to go.

***

But eventually, we got help. The Queen realised the predicament she had left us in and gave a map. But this map was no ordinary one, it was magical. It was like a normal map, except for one thing. It had an arrow as our location, and this arrow would move around as we moved, making our task of navigation much easier. This way, we could truly explore the city without getting.

"Alright, now let's go!" Watergirl said with a smiled and I mirrored hers after a second, as we proceeded on our first adventure together.

***

Our enthusiasm was short-lived, because we couldn't find where Bottletree street was at all. "Kesktee, what does that mean? It's probably the reason why we aren't able to find this address on the map." Watergirl suggested. But even then, how were we supposed to find out what it stood for?

"Did you just say Kesktee? Oh you sure did! You must be new here, not knowing the street codes and stuff." A random voice behind us quipped. I turned around and came face to face with Quinn, the girl I had met in my TOTE earlier. "Oh, hey Quinn! Do you actually mind helping us with the Kesktee part, we're quite lost and we have to deliver this letter." I replied, signalling to the letter in Watergirl's hand.

"You know my name? Oh, you must be out newly recruited Earth Warriors! Hi you two!" she waved enthusiastically, before continuing about Kesktee. "Kesktee roughly translate's to mean "the middle". It's supposed to be the realm where both the Fire and Water Elementials coexist and live together in the middle of Elementia, hence the fancy name." she finished explaining to us.

"They only live together in the middle? How about everywhere else?" Watergirl questioned.

"Ah, there's quite a long history behind that. But mainly, Water and Fire Elementials cannot coexist together. Their personalities and abilities are very conflicting, which is what caused The Great Elemential War several hundred years ago. Only those who really believe that they can live with the other element without causing any troubles, are the ones allowed in Kesktee." Quinn elaborated.

I couldn't quite believe it, frankly. There had been a war here in the past? Considering the magic and all the power in this kingdom, this war would have been much worse than anything we'd probably have seen on Earth. "War? What exactly happened? Why did it happen?" I asked Quinn, amazed at the possibilities flowing through my mind.

"Woah, slow down Fireboy. I'm not gonna bore you with the kingdom's history. Besides, it's kind of a taboo topic here. Anything we all find out about the war, it's not by ear. No one really talks about the war, because it's a source of tension in the kingdom." Quinn stated, which definitely made the war seem more scarier that it was before. "But anyway, back to Kesktee! just head on this same road and the first street you should see in a bit should be Bottletree! All the best!" Quinn wished us before continuing to head her way. So did Watergirl and I, determined to find Kesktee as soon as we could.

***

This is so much more than a bit, I thought back to Quinn's words as we finally approached the door of 10 Bottletree Street. I rang the doorbell, and in just a second, the door was opened. It was quite a surprise, as we came face to face with Alex, whom we had both met in the TOTE.
