“Ni..calm. You’ll be okay” Niall tried to take a deep breath as Hallie spoke softly. She’d been his best friend since eighth year and was now dating his bandmate Louis Tomlinson. She’d chosen helping Niall relax and get ready for his first date over spending a quiet night alone with her boyfriend.
“I can’t help it…what if I mess up?” Niall’s voice trembled as Hallie straightened his jacket and fixed his hair.
“Niall, look at me” Hallie turned his head to look down at her bright green eyes. “Harry cooked dinner, I did your hair and outfit, Liam and Lou took Zayn out for the day. Everything is perfect. Zayn really likes you and you really like him. Everything is gonna be okay”
Niall could only nod.
“Now. Harry left about five minutes ago. Food is on the table already. Louis is coming to pick me up now. Good luck, Boo” Hallie leaned up and kissed his cheek gently before leaving the bathroom.
Niall took a deep breath as he heard Hallie exchange a few words with someone (probably Zayn) before leaving. He looked up at himself in the mirror once more before heading downstairs.
“Hey Ni” Niall smiled as he heard the familiar, accented voice.
“Zayn” Niall grinned as Zayn greeted him with a hug. “Ready to eat?”
“Starving” Zayn smiled. Under his flawless face Niall saw a flicker of nervousness.
“Come on then” Niall led Zayn into the small dinning room. Hallie and Harry had outdone themselves. The large oak table that normally occupied the room had been replaced with a small, square glass table built for two. Two blood red place mats with silver embroidery had been set up and their plates were already filled with what smelled like Harry’s signature homemade steak saute. The white calla lilies placed in small clear bowls around the room were undoubtedly Hallie’s touch. Niall smiled to himself when he saw that instead of wine Hallie and Harry had supplied them with an ice cooler of soda cans. A not sat in a small basket filled with fresh, warm, rolls.
Zayn picked up the note and read it out loud. “Dear Lovebirds, as you have noticed we have replaced the alcohol in the house with soda. Wouldn’t want things getting too frisky. xxxHarry, Lou, and Hallie. “
“Typical” Niall said as he and Zayn sat.
Zayn picked up his fork and speared a bit of steak and friend green pepper. “Oh wow…Harry has outdone himself” Zayn commented as Niall too took a bite.
“Oops” Niall muttered as he dropped a bit of pepper in his lap. He reached for the napkin and lifted it, sending something small and red onto the table.
“Is….Is that a…..condom ” Zayn laughed as Niall stared at the object in horror. “There’s a note on the back of your napkin.
Niall flicked the pepper off his lap and flipped the napkin. He read the note out loud to Zayn. “Nialler and Zaynie, Harry and Hallie were completely against this…..but I wanted you to be safe. Happy bottoming Nialler ;) -Lou”
Niall nearly choked as he read. Zayn laughed hard, not noticing the blonde’s quickly reddening face
“Ni, you okay?” Zayn suddenly asked. His voice was filled with concern.
“Yeah…it’s just…”Niall’s eyes pricked with tears. “It was supposed to be perfect…and now I look like an idiot”
“Ni, don’t cry” Zayn scooted his chair around so that he was next to Niall. “This is perfect. All I need for this to be perfect is you”
“You mean it?” Niall sniffled.
“I mean it” Zayn said before kissing Niall’s temple. “Now….why don’t we finish eating and then we can watch a movie?”
“Sure” Niall nodded and took a bite from his plate.
He’d have to remember to thank Louis.
