You set to book down with a sigh. Things were different now. You were about 27, had just retired from the military because every time you had taken someone's life, images of that day had kept flashing through your mind. And after your commanding officer, Brigadier General Maes Hughes, was murdered, you resigned. You couldn't see anyone killed anymore.
So now you were sitting on your floor, going through all your old stuff. You set the book aside and continued to sort the items in the boxes ...
Most of it was all stuff you'll never use, things you thought you had lost eons ago and replaced, and there was even a few letters to your parents from their friends.
As you emptied that last box, your phone rang. With a sigh, you stood up, wincing as your muscles protested. You picked up the phone and said, "(y/n)'s residence, (y/n) speaking."
"Hello, Ms. (y/n)." a familiar voice said on the other line. "How are you this lovely evening?"
"Well, if it isn't Colonel Mustang. What do you want? A clueless girl to flirt with? Ora re the Elric Brothers mysteriously in town and don't have a place to stay ... as usual?" You smirked a little; hearing his faint groan.
"You got it, (y/n). They just arrived here in Central and all the hotels are booked for the next week. Don't you remember what's going on tomorrow?" Roy asked.
Your mind drew a blank. What was he talking about? "Uh ..." you stalled, trying to think.
"It's Founding Day, (y/n)." Roy chuckled.
You groaned. Of course. Tomorrow marked the day when Amestris was made a country. "So they need a place, huh? Tell them to sleep in the gutters or something. My house is a mess!" you lied.
"Really now? I bet your house has an extra bedroom or two that's not being used, right?"
He had hit the nail right on the head. You had an extra bedroom, but since you never had company over, it had become your sorting room. "Well ... I guess they could sleep on the couch ..." you mumbled.
"Good. Consider your debt repaid." You could hear the grin in his voice.
"Debt? What debt?!" you snarled.
"From last month, when I picked you up and drove you home that night."
You glared at the pile of boxes. "Only because you wouldn't let me say no, you bastard!" you snarled.
He laughed. "They'll be over there in ten minutes." And with that, he hug up.
You slammed the phone down with a growl. That bastard!
You rushed up to the guest room and started moving the books off the bed, trying to stack them somewhere better, like downstairs or on the table.
You were just finishing with the bed as someone knocked on your door. "Coming!" you called, rushing down the stairs. Being in such a rush, you had forgotten to pick up that pesky book that fell from your grasp as you were carrying it downstairs. Your foot caught right on the edge and sent you crashing down the stairs.
Your ankle and foot screaming in pain, you limped to your front door and opened it, forcing a smile onto your face.
There on your porch was Edward Elric and his brother, Alphonse Elric. The former was a red-coated midget, no taller than your chin. He had gold hair in his usual braid, and matching gold eyes. The latter was in a huge suit of armor, and you had never seen the boy inside.
