Chapter 8: Seeing red
I wake up to the sound of Rebecca Blacks song 'Friday' blasting in my alarm. Friday already? This has been a short week. Time flies when your having fun I guess. I check the time on my phone, and it tells me it's Wednesday. Why would the radio play Friday on a Wednesday?! That's just confusing!! It's not even a popular song anymore. They just got my hopes up, Damn radio. I get ready for school and before I know it I'm walking to school with my ear phones in.
*Beep beep*
I look up and rip my earphones out as I'm facing a car that's just pulled up in front of me. A million things are running through my head as I assess the situation that's unfolding before me. What do I do? Do I run? But, they beeped right..? And its not a white van or anything but an old red holden, there not known for being dodgy... What do i do?! The passenger door then opens and I feel like I'm about to be abducted, and i start to position myself to run until I recognize who it is
"Patrick? What are you doing? Shouldn't you be at school?"
"I should be at school. As should you Kat." He Smiles as he walks closer to me. "And in answer to your question I'm here to offer my services." I send him a blank look to which he continues "I noticed you were walking. And we're going to be late, so your going to be super late. So do you want a lift?" That makes sense
"I'd love a lift thanks." I reply and we walk back towards the car.
"Hi I'm Steve, Pats brother," the driver says as we get into the car "i'd shake your hand but.. Well I can't. All buckled in?" Patrick nods as I reply.
"Yep. And thanks for the lift. I'm Kat by the way. Nice to meet you Steve. Are you in year twelve this year?"
"Yep. Final year of high school. So how long have you two been friends? I don't think I've heard of you before."
"Oh um just a few days."
"We really only met yesterday." Pat cuts in "she's Jason's friend and seeing I'm such a nice guy I accepted her with open arms. Oh by the way how's your ankle?"
"Oh it's fine now. As you maybe noticed I was walking fine. It hardly hurts. But the graze on my leg is a bit annoying. I fell over yesterday" I explain to Steve as he looks between to to of us a little confused, whilst still paying attention to the road.
"Wow! Just one day you say? If I didn't know any better I would think you've been friends for a long time"
"I'll take that as a complement" Pat and I reply in unison and all three of us burst out laughing.
"We're here and we've only missed... Eight minutes of first period" Steve concludes as we pulled up to the school and get out of the car
"Thanks for the lift guys! I'll see you at recess Pat?"
"I'll be there"
I walk into English just as someone's finishing up there speech. As I take my seat next to Jason miss calls him up the front to present his speech on me. I'm glad I didn't miss this! I want to know what he thinks of me. As he gets up I send him an encouraging smile and he begins
"Kat Richardson is not a very well known student at our school. She sits by herself a lot, and try's her best to blend in and not be noticed. I can see now how good she is at it two, as you are all not focusing on me, but her, as you are trying to remember her. Before we were made partners, I hardly knew her at all. I recognize the face, and knew her name was Kat but that was it."
