Chapter 4
JENIFER'S POV
- the next day -
I woke up to the sound of my alarm. I sat up on my bed, rubbing my eyes. I hate school. But then, I remember, it's Friday! Friday, Friday, Friday! Which means no school tomorrow, and most importantly, No tutorials! More free time!
- during lunch at school -
I was walking down the hallway, heading for the cafeteria, when I noticed a group of jocks huddled around a corner. "Please... Stop... Please..." I hear a familiar voice plead.
My head shot up, as I dropped my books on the floor. The jocks started leaning over and throwing punches in the air. I ran to them, shoving their, 'leader,' who's actually... Dillon! Jordan was laid on the ground, his lip bleeding and his body limp. "What the hell do you think you're doing!?" I yelled, shielding Jordan's limp, bruised body.
"Oh, Jen! We were just... It's none of your business. Wait! Why do you care for this pathetic jerk?" He asked, kicking Jordan's leg.
"Oh shut up! I care for everyone! Maybe except for you, if you don't stop picking on him." I said, as he and his companions backed away.
"Jen, come on!" He sighed frustratingly, running his fingers through his brown quiff. I crossed my arms, as Jordan limped behind me. I kept a straight face, staring him down.
"Fine! I'll let this slip, Adams!" He spat. Literally! Then he walked away, with his scumbag group of, 'friends.' As soon as they disappeared around the corner, I rushed to his side, helping him sit up.
"Let's go to the nurse. Come on." I said, as I awkwardly put his arm around my shoulder. He touched his lip, hissing at the pain.
"Do you, really... Care for everyone?" He asked, looking down.
"Uhh... somehow." I said.
"Why did you do that?" He asked, as I heaved his body up.
"Do what?"
"You... stood up for me. Nobody's ever done that for me before." He frowned, wiping his lip with his sleeve.
"Jordan, just because we ultimately hate each other, doesn't mean I want you dead." I explained. I bit my lip. I did not think that through...
"Uhh... Thanks?" He whispered, barely audible. I shrugged, as we passed by my books on the floor. I kicked them aside, a guy quickly took notice, picking them up and neatly placing them in my locker.
"Thank you!" I smiled, as he closed my locker, returning the smile. In other people's eyes, he, (the guy who picked my books up) was classified as, 'the weird nerd,' but actually, he's really nice. I just don't get why people bully others. Slowly, we made our way to the nurse's office.
"What happened?" She asked, as I sat him down on a chair.
"He was.... Running... Then he sort of, tripped." I lied. I watched the nurse roll the leg of his jeans up, uncovering the bandage I put on him yesterday.
"Oh, you have another wound! But it's been healing well." She exclaimed, studying the bruise. "How did he get this?" She looked at me.
"He... Runs... A lot..." I replied, as Jordan smirked, amused at my lying skills. Jordan seldom runs. He's always seen walking, or strolling, or wandering, or just plain sitting. And now, I'm making the nurse think he runs like an athlete.
"Okay, I'll take it from here, Jen." She said, waving me off.
I walked out the clinic, feeling his eyes on me.
I didn't look back.
- later -
It was the last subject and thankfully, no homework or assignments were given. Now, I can't wait to be dismissed. Dillon hadn't approached me yet, thank the lord, but his friends were, occasionally glancing and smirking at me. He's gonna kill me, I know it. I slung my bag over my shoulder, tapping my foot, while waiting for the bell. As expected, the bell echoed in the hallways, as we all stood up and left the classroom. Tyler should be waiting for me at the school's entrance by now. I dumped all of my books in my locker, grabbing my skateboard. I slammed it shut, skipping happily to the staircase. "Hey Ty!" I exclaimed, hopping on his back.
"Jen! Glad you can make it!" He said, linking his hands under my legs for support. "Uhh... Why is he looking at you like that?" He asked, looking at the entrance. Jordan...?...?...?
"Probably nothing. Let's go!" I said, as he put me down. I picked up my skateboard, still feeling Jordan's gaze on me. Tyler put his arm around my shoulder, as we walked away. I always liked his arm around me, not like the feeling of Jordan's. I heard the shuffling of feet, and noticed, he was gone...
