"Class, remember that your three page essay on Quantum Physics and the impact it has made in modern society is due on Monday." Doctor Yates said to the class as he erased the blackboard in front of him.

The students responded with a symphony of groans and grumbles as the bell rang declaring the end of the school day. Dana took a sigh of relief and began to quietly pack her things away. As she stacked her binders and notebooks on top of each other Dr. Yates turned around and said, "Miss Scully, may I speak a word with you after class?"

The shy, red-haired girl slowly looked up from her blue notebook that sported a small, circular sticker of the Eagles', a band she loved, logo in the top right corner. She tried her best not to make eye contact with her teacher, in fright that she might blush. Dr. Yates was in his third or fourth year of teaching; he was very young, tall, had wavy blonde hair that he kept short and slicked, and eyes so blue that anyone could get lost in them. Dana had been crushing on her teacher the whole school year and hoped to God that he couldn't tell.

The class erupted into squeals and giggles; the most enthusiasm they'd shown the entire year. This only made things worse. If there was anything Dana hated, it was people seeing through her emotions and Period 7 - Physics 101 sure seemed to be able to see right through her.

Dana slowly stood up straight as a wave of anxiety flooded from her toes to her throat: She feared the worst. However, she was the top student in the class, actually, she was the only student in the class that would even bother to bring their book or stay awake.

Before she could even acknowledge her teacher, her friends all walked past her whispering crude phrases and making obscene gestures. Dana knew they were only joking but being told, "Get it, Dana." didn't exactly make her anxiety feel any more at ease.

She flung her navy blue backpack over one shoulder and slowly approached her teacher, adjusting her white blouse and red plaid skirt as she went. She held her breath, unknowingly, and stood before him.

"Uh.. Doctor, is something the matter?" She asked with a face that began to grow redder by the second.

"Dana, don't be nervous," he chuckled, "I just wanted to congratulate you on your acceptance to the University of Maryland." He smiled and casually sat on the corner of his desk.

Dana exhaled a sigh of relief and a small smile began to curl from her lips.

"Thank you Dr. I greatly appreciate that." She blushed.

"What will you be studying?" He asked as he folded his arms against his chest.

"I uh- I think that I want to go into the Physics program, actually." Dana said as she slid the cross pendant on her necklace up and down the chain, once again trying not to make eye contact.

"I figured." Dr. Yates said with a smile.

"What do you mean?" Dana looked up, puzzled.
