Once the doors opened, I saw my dad, Mr. Stark, and Nick Fury waiting for us on the main floor. Mr. Fury got into a long speech about how we needed to uphold the legacy the agents before us had strived to maintain. Blah blah blah. I'm sorry but there is only so much boring material a girl who was just let out of school can process before going into maximum overload.
"Alana, did you hear me?" Dylan asked as I was mindlessly staring at a brick wall. Lost in though.
"No. Sorry, anything worth repeating?" I smiled embarrassed, turning bright red.
"Nick....Mr. Fury said that when we are ready to head up to our dad's offices. He said they have something we will find very interesting." Dylan rolled his eyes and smirked at me.
He and I spent the next hour milling around the compound. Getting yelled at when we got to close to a restricted area, or getting glares from people in the hallways for looking to 'adolescent' as a women and I swanky red pantsuit put it.
Finally when we had seen every inch of the headquarters, that we were allowed to see, Dylan and I piled into the elevators and he pushed to button to the 12th floor. Both of our dads had offices there.
Right before the elevator doors opened, I saw Dylan out of the corner of my eye. I looked like he wanted to say something but refrained from doing so.
My dad greeted Dylan and I with a warm smile and Mr. Stark walked up dropping a file into the secretaries mailbox.
"Sooo...", I teetered back and forth on my heals,"what would we find so interesting that I had to pull us away from a good tour?"
My dad smiled and handed us a dusty copy of a leather bound book.
My smile dropped. It was an agents field guide. Dylan was skimming through the pages of his and looked thoroughly interested. We turned around heading to the elevator. My mom was supposed to pick us up at 5:00 and it was 4:30.
"One more thing. Alana do you mind the Starks being guests at our annual end of the year picnic?" I turned around and so did Dylan. My dad and Mr. Stark stood smiling.
"Not at all. Cass is coming to, right?" I cocked an eyebrow at my dad.
"Absolutely, have your mother pick her up on the way home."
So enough my mom was there and we were heading to Cass's house. She came out in a yellow sundress and her hair tied back into loose pony hair. I think I head Dylan gasp. But just ever so slightly that I could have imagined it. We drove to my house with the windows down and the music up. I felt like summer and that is the best feeling I have ever experienced. Once I got home. Cass and I went to my bedroom so I could change out of my school clothes and Dylan started talking sports with the other guys.
Cass helped me picked out a white tank top, stone wasted high wasted shorts, and white converse. I walked outside and pushed Cass over in Dylan's general direction. Hey I was helping a friend out. I know, I know I'm such a good friend. Cass will thank me later.
Soon enough it was 8:00 and Cass's parents wanted her home so her family could go to the high school carnival and fireworks after. Dylan I decided to walk to the park that was just down the road. We talked about everything. School, summer plans, being new recruits. Then finally I switched the topic to Cass.
"What do you think of her. I mean I know you like her as a friend and all but do you like her as maybe something more?" I smiled and nudged him with my shoulder.
"I don't know I mean she is gorgeous and I love hanging out with her but I kind of like you..." His voice trailed off and we had an uncomfortable silence for a few moments.
I looked back over the time we have known each other. I replayed the memories we shared and I realized I did like Dylan but I suppressed my feeling for him because Cass liked him. I grabbed his hand and laced his fingers with mine. Soon enough we were both leaning in and our lips met. About half an hour later he and I walked back to my house hand in hand. I dropped his hand once we got inside my yard. Our dads were talking about a new case and Dylan and I absently listened to the conversation but it was apparent that both of our minds were somewhere else.**********Will Cass find out what happened. What does the future hold for this love triangle?**********
