"Where have you been?" Mom asked, shocked to see me home after four.

"We went swimming," I said, hanging my jacket.

"You can't swim," she scoffed. "Where did you really go?"

"I went swimming," I repeated, raising my eyebrows. "We went to the lake, so I didn't really need to swim swim."

"Oh stop messing with her, Lucy, she just went to have fun with her friend," Pam called from the kitchen. "It's not like she was out with boys."

When I finally got back to my room, I started thinking about the lake again. Why does she make me so nervous? She's just like any other girl, I thought, grabbing pajamas.

I was about to make the short journey to the shower, when I heard a noise that made my spine tingle. THUD. Another rock hit my window. I tiptoed over, expecting a perverted teenage boy or Lucy, locked out of the house. Instead, I saw blonde waves.

I stood to the side to open the window, and another projectile flew past my nose. I pursed my lips.

"Excuse me ma'am, but this is private property," I said, hiding a smile.

She simply raised one hand and motioned, Call me.

My eyebrows pulled together. Okay then, I thought as I reached over to my nightstand to get my phone. It was already ringing.

"Have you ever snuck out?" Ella said quickly, before I could greet her.

I cringed. "Out where?," I asked, checking behind me for Lucy.

"It doesn't matter," she said. I could see her grin even from the second floor. "Dodgezilla is around the corner, just come on outside," she enthused.

I looked down at my clothes, still a little wet from the river. "I was about to shower, though," I complained.

"Well, in that case, have you ever snuck someone in?"

I blushed a deep red. "I'll be down in a minute."
