Apparently being awake and walking around at three in the morning affected my sleep schedule - badly. The next morning, Lucy let me stay home from school (a rarity) because I slept through my alarm ringing twice.

When I finally woke up (at eleven thirty in the morning), I had five new texts, all from Ella.

"Where are you?" "Are you okay?" "Are you dead" "Did you forget about your trig homework or something???" "WHY AREN'T YOU HERE?!" my phone shouted at me.

I sighed. Ella certainly was beautiful and thoughtful, but damn if she wasn't nosy.

I sat up and stretched. Lucy would never let me leave the house while I skipped school. Usually, I spent those days scrolling through Instagram. However, I felt a tug to do something useful with a free day.

I sat down at the foot of my closet and stared blankly at the white doors. I hadn't reorganized in a few months. I sighed and opened the door a crack.

DINGDING!

I shot to my feet and across the room to my phone before the second ring.

"Hello?" I gushed, secretly thrilled to have an excuse not to go through my closet.

"Oh you're finally up?" Lucy said, mocking surprise.

My face fell. Of course if would be Lucy. "I just woke up a little while ago."

"I figured," she said, and my eyes narrowed. Only I was allowed to call myself lazy. "What were you up to last night that made you so tired?"

"I was up reading," I said quickly.
"What were you reading? Anything good?"

"Um, just something new," I said, careful to keep my voice steady.

"If you say so. Hey, can you wash my car today? You don't have to detail it, just wash it. Don't even open the door," she said.

My forehead creased. Lucy sounded really off about her car. Maybe I'll see what's in it, if it's so secret, I thought, but quickly dismissed it as immoral.

"Yeah, sure," I said, "I will when you get home."
