"Thank you." is all I can manage as we walk to the the parking lot on the North end of the school. Walking a few paces ahead of me I watch as Jesper strides almost emotionless about the whole fight with Joe. Just a simple who cares, its over and done with. Glancing over my shoulder in attempt to see if the paramedics have arrived yet, I see the small glow of red behind the school illuminating the building as if it might be on fire. With a sigh of relief I face forward again. I'm glad that Joe is able to have some medical attention. Jesper was kind enough to call and let the medical dispatcher know even though he is extremely pissed about the whole thing. I can just tell, his body gives it away pretty much saying "Look at me! I'm pissed off and I am going to sit and pout about it until I forget!"
"No problem. Like I said before, glad I showed up when I did." Stopping in front of a white Mustang with one solid stripe down the middle Jesper jesters for me to get in as he stands on the passenger side with the door frame in his right hand.
Wrapping my arms closely to my body I give a half smile as I sit down in the passenger seat. Closing the door behind me Jesper walks around the car to the driver seat. Sitting down Jesper starts the car and we pull out of the school parking lot. The thought about what just happened played over and over again in my head. Joe trying to make a move, Jesper there to save me not once but twice in one day. He just arrived to this school about a week ago yet hes there to help. Biting my lip I look up at Jesper who has his eyes locked on the road. "Umm, Jesper? Can I ask you something?"
"Huh? Yeah? Go ahead." Giving me a quick glance Jesper resumes looking at the road ahead.
"How come you came looking for me after the game. I know that you told me to meet you after the game was over. But obviously I got tied up with somethings, as you witnessed. Where I am getting at with all of this is how come you didn't just leave like any other student. Why did you come looking for me?" Clenching my hands together I feel anxiety slowly start to build as I awaited his answer.
Looking at me as we come to a stop at a red light Jasper's eyes darken. The red light reflecting off the window in the right place making Jesper glow with red. Almost as if metaphorically to represent anger. "Because, I had a feeling I needed to stay. Then I heard you cry out." Jesper confesses.
I sat froze for a moment as I took in his words. He heard me cry out? There's no way he could have heard me from the opposite side of the school.
"How could you hear me cry out? You told me to meet you on the other side of the school.."
As the light turned green Jesper sat at the intersection. He didn't proceed through he just sat there and stared at me."It's complicated. Is there anything else you would like to know while we are on the topic of me?" Jesper says with a curious tone.
Giving him a confused look I pause giving myself time to think. Chewing on my bottom lip I look both ways to see if anyone was coming. Luckily no one. Sighing I sit up straight and allow myself to relax a little. Don't take me actions the wrong way, I just feel as if I can relax a little around Jesper. Hell he saved me from Joe just twenty minutes ago. And somehow always knows where to be at the right time.
"Yes there is more. Just moments before that accident earlier you approached me from behind. Scared me, then watched as I walked out onto the road. So how is it that as I saw my life flash before my eyes, and was accepting the fact I was about to be hit. How in the world did I end up on the other side of the road with you on top of me, completely unhurt?" Seriousness filled the air making the car become stuffy. Jesper just sits still letting me finish my little spiel.
"I was right behind you the entire time. I just happened to step out in front of the car in enough time to push you away just as the car swerved." Jasper says keeping a straight face.
"Bullshit." I say folding my arms. Taken back by my sudden words Jesper's expression changes from nothing to shocked. "There is no way the driver could have swerved in enough time to miss. We both know that. Now tell me the truth." Searching in his eyes for the answer.
Suddenly the light turns green and Jesper floors it while still staring at me. Not once looking to see if anyone was coming through the intersection. Letting out a small scream I look from Jesper to the road then back. "What the hell! Watch the road!"
"What the road? I don't need to." Jesper says with annoyance trailing his voice. "You want to know how I knew about you and Joe?" Jasper asks again as the car engine growls as Jesper began to push against the gas harder. "I'll tell you how I did it."
Now in the city, lights from tall skyscrapers reflect off the windshield. Cars now dance around the streets. "Jesper!" I yell. He's eyes never once leaving me as his hands stay on the wheel. The closer we got to the traffic ahead the more I begin to panic. My breathing starts to increase by a million, heart pounding as fast as I think it has ever in its life thus far. Looking between the cars ahead then back to Jesper I feel my face begin to swell with an over whelming amount of emotion. Glancing down at the speedometer I gasp, we are going ninety miles an hour towards one of the busiest intersections in town! Letting out a scream I cover my head as I turn to brace myself against the car.
My seat belt quickly locks causing me to jolt forward as the car comes to a harsh stop before the light flashes red. There we sat in the cross walk staring at one another the only sound in the car is my heavy breathing and the low rumble of the engine. Opening my mouth to say something Jesper speaks first. "Do you really want to know how I was able to save you from the accident? Hear you scream for help? Speed down this road without looking? Are you ready to take in that information that will forever alter the course of your life? Are you ready for that responsibility Iverly!"
Taking in a sharp breath I watch as Jesper reads my face, his eyes scanning every inch. A small spark of light flashes across his icy blue eyes- And in that moment I knew he had his answer.
With his hands still on the steering wheel Jesper lets his body relax as his hands fall into his lap. Closing his eyes Jesper sucks in a small breath before sighing heavily. Running a hand through his hair Jesper opens his eyes and smiles. The eyes that were once so beautiful and full of icy water are now blood stained red. His sweet smile now corrupt by two sharp fangs that cover his canines. Slowly his skin starts to become more and more pale as I stare at him in disbelief of what I am seeing. "I, my dear Iverly Clark am a creature of the night. A vampire."
