{Chapter 3}

As he got closer and closer to my table my breaths became more rapid. I forced myself to calm down. He approached the table and sat down across from me, saying nothing. The boy stared down at his tray where he was picking at the remaining food bits in his otherwise empty lunch container.

"Um...hi?" I said after a few minutes.

"Hi." He grunted out, not looking up to acknowledge it was me he was talking to.

His voice was partially deep, in-between high and low. It was nice. It sounded warm and comforting behind the hard wall he was trying to hide his feelings with. Strange. Mysterious. I liked that.

"May I ask why you came to sit with me?" I questioned.

"Um...You looked lonely." He said, glancing up at me briefly through a space in his bangs.

"Aren't you going to tell me your name?"

"Um, it's Ashur. I'm new here." He said, an audible pause between each word. Did it mean he was shy? Nervous? Or just not social? I just wanted to understand.

"Well, my names Grace...welcome I guess."

"Uh...thanks." He mumbled, not looking up this time. It was getting really akward. I didn't know what to say. Nobody really ever came up to me or talked to me besides Amy. You could pretty much say I had the social skills of a rock.

"Where'd you move from?" I asked, not really knowing what to say next.

"Nevada."

"Co-"

"What is your next period?"he questioned , cutting me off.

"Oh, it's English."

"Mine is too. Um...wanna walk there? Like...together?" He said still looking down at his tray.

"Uhh, s-"

"Cause I don't know where it is." He said plaintively, cutting me off again.

The bell rang and I hurried to English, him walking next to me with his head down and his books hugged close to his chest. I have to admit, it looked like a very hot, unsocial gesture, even if he was a huge ass. Nobody could ignore his looks I guess because everyone stared at him and exchanged quiet whispers.

When we got to our class he stopped abruptly, mumbled a thank you, and trudged over to Mrs.Klinez's desk . What marvelous manners, I thought, rolling my eyes and shuffling over to my desk.

I couldn't help but stare at him. This was what was keeping my mind out? I really wanted to get him to like me, get him to tell me al the reasons his eyes didn't shine as bright as I knew they could. I wanted to read him, it was illogical really, I just need to conquer this task. I needed to, why?? I sat pondering on it the rest of the period.

After class ended Mrs. Klinez ushered me over to her desk. Oh shit what did I forget to turn in, I thought to myself. She greeted me with a perfect white smile encased in ruby red lipstick. Her hazel eyes were inviting, crinkled at the edges due to the smile on her face. Her thick chocolate locks were pulled back into a tight ponytail and her white ruffled blouse was tucked into her black pencil skirt. Her red heels, along with the skirt, exposed her tan legs and feet. Everything about her screamed happy and slightly bold. Also a bit mischievous.

"Hey Grace, what's new?" She asked, genuine friendship in her tone.

"Nothing much. Just the same old grind." I answered, looking down at my watch to see if I would be late to work.

"Well I won't keep you long but the new boy in our class named Ashur needs some catching up.If you could perhaps meet with him on Thursdays or Fridays that would be great. And maybe I'll find a way to bump up your PE grade." She slyly smiled and winked at me. This was why Mrs. Klinez was my favorite teacher.

"Sure, I'd be glad to. Thanks Mrs. Klinez, your the best." I said over my shoulder, turning around only to say my usual goodbye to her, a peace sign then a wave.

I sprinted past lockers and couples making out until I reached the parking lot. I got into my car and slammed the door shut behind me, fumbling with the keys in my haste. Huh, I thought. I felt a weird tingling sensation in my upper body, making it's way down to my toes. I paused for just a second, then turned the key in the ignition and sped off in the direction of Marsha's, knowing that whatever it was, this sensation was a good one.
