"She got a promotion Clara! A promotion, and she accepted it. She didn't even bother to ask me for my opinion, she just took it!" Camila told her mother-in-law in a frustrated state.
"I know my daughter did wrong in not consulting her family about it, but you have to understand her. The hospital is her life and being the head of her department now makes her happy."
"I've tried, I really have, but look at it in my point of view. This means less time with us. Amber is growing up and Lauren isn't even there for it half the time. I literally feel like a single mom sometimes."
Clara looks at her granddaughter who was playing with Odie and Dexter, the dogs finally had finally gotten a chance to meet each other and have a play date. She was a lot like Lauren at her age and it did sadden her a bit to know that her daughter wasn't there to watch her grow up.
"Her job involves a lot of dedication and it means slight separation from her personal life. You knew this was a possibility when you married her dear, now you have to face it. Unless you plan on leaving her? Do you?"
"Oh no! Of course not, she's the love of my life, the other mother to Amber. I took vows Clara and so did she. I know I'm upset with this whole promotion thing, but I won't let this break us apart."
"That's good mija, but I just ask for you to take care of her for Mike and I. You guys live an hour away and you know we're getting older everyday and we can't check up on you guys all the time."
"I will Clara, I just wish she took some time off. I mean after going through so much she deserves a break from the hospital, but of course she goes and does the exact opposite."
"Well you already know how Lauren is, so stubborn and determined all the time. She could be going crazy inside, but outside she's the calmest person you could ever know."
"Yeah that's very true, but I have to go now, my kids have a competition to get to and they can't leave without their conductor. Thanks for taking care of Amber, I'll call you when I'm on my way to pick her up."
"Good luck honey, and anytime."

Camila was now in Santa Monica with her band. They were getting dressed in their red and white uniforms, they were recently purchased. Because of the white pants and shoes, their high toes during marching would reflect more on the street and give them more visual points unlike the previous black ones.
"Make sure to get your gloves from the box! I'm not walking a mile back to get them if you forget!" She announced.
After everyone was in uniform and the girls figured out how to keep their hair in the helmet -something very difficult to do- they got in lines of two's and off they were to where they'd perform and compete for first place.
They were in their block, six trombones made their front line. As they waited, they were able to watch the band in front of them who happened to be their main rival. The piece they played and marched to was very familiar to them. It wasn't until the trio that Camila recognized the piece as the one her band had played last year that took her to win sweepstakes. The judges then announced her band, signaling for them to start.
"We're up guys, just remember, high toes, good posture, keep the lines and diagonals, lastly exaggerate on the dynamics. Give it shape, make music." Mrs. C ordered them.
Their drum major did his thing with his baton and off they were with the first step with the left foot. Everything was done beautifully and Camila was proud of her band. This was the first competition of the season, but she already knew her band would be very successful throughout the rest that followed.
