"Can you please just keep an eye on my patients real quick while I run to the dry cleaners?" Lauren asked the new doctor Dinah had told her about some weeks ago.
"You may be the head of the department here, but you can't just leave you're patients to another doctor like if they're objects that can be passed down." Dr. Ramsey replied.
Lauren groaned, the nurse was right, this man was stubborn as hell and rude. What made it even worse was her lack of sleep.
"You look like shit." Dinah told her best friend.
"Well that's what happens when your wife kicks you out of your own home and having to sleep in on call rooms -which sometimes have interns barging in with intentions of having sex- for the past three days! Then I have a colleague here that won't even do me a damm favor!" She said irritated with a raised voice.
"Okay Laur, you are a mess right now and I understand. Just go take a shower, get your life together, pick up your clothes and then come back. I'll keep an eye on your patients meanwhile."
Dr. Jauregui knew her best friend was right. She wasn't in the right mindset at the moment and that would cloud her judgement when treating incoming patients. She left the hospital -which has became her home- and returned a hour later. Freshened up and concentrated, she went directly to the baby unit where Jilian's son was being kept. He was making a lot of progress and Lauren couldn't wait to tell his mother.
Dinah watched as the green eyed doctor walked into patient room 2932 and as she sat comfortably right next to the mom. She was so into the sight that she didn't notice that the phone was ringing until a nearby nurse asked if she was going to get that.
"Hello this is Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center third floor."
"I'd like to speak with nurse Dinah."
"Camila?"
"Oh Dinah, its you!"
"Yeah it's me dufas, can't you tell? Anyway why are you calling?"
"To check up on you know."
Dinah rubbed her forehead, "Mila, you kicked her out of her own home and now you want to know how she's doing. Did anyone ever tell you you're complicated?"
"Shut up, but I know I may have gone overboard, but she chose to stay with that woman who is a stranger over her wife and daughter."
When Camila had found Lauren in the same bed as the patient, she instantly thought the worst. She woke up her wife hastily with some strong physical contact to her arms and chest. Lauren immediately tried to explain, but Camila wasn't having any of it.
For all she knew, this stranger had taken Lauren from them the night before. She then left and came back with some of Lauren's clothes later that day. That was three days ago, three days that the doctor had lived without seeing her daughter or having a home cooked meal.
"Well honestly she looks like crap, she reminds me of a psych patient, especially with those dark circles under her eyes."
Dinah didn't get a response for awhile and she knew that Camila was thinking.
"Cut her some slack Mila, you know what her job consists of. She gets involved with the patients emotionally sometimes and she can't help it."
