Scribble day.
A day in the life of senior school students wherein they get their school shirts signed by their teachers, friends, batchmates, and whoever they consider significant in their school lives. Basically one of the last days of school when they get to create their own school memorabilia, in the form of a signed white school shirt, which, no longer remains white for the most part."That means Y has to be present", I say, a smile forming on my face.
We're at the foot of the stairs leading up to the ground, from where we would head to the campus gate. We wait as the crowd of students recede before us to let us go. I must be on the fifth or sixth step ( there are about ten to twelve steps) that I catch a glimpse of him, standing at the extreme left on the very first step- he's getting in the building. As soon as I see him, I grab Jasmeet's bag from behind -who is walking just ahead of me, Tahira and Naina in front of her- till we reach the ground and shake her almost to the point that she loses her balance and stumbles. "What's the matter with you?", she says. "He ....he....", I say almost losing my voice, out of nervousness or excitedness, I can't tell. "Who?", she asks me. Tahira and Naina join us seeing my astonished expression. "What's happening", Tah asks.
"He.... Y IS HERE!!", I yell and take all of them back in the building. "OMG!", Naina says excitedly as we run down the stairs and up to the first floor. We look all around, but he's nowhere in sight. "What the hell, it's only been like, what, 5 seconds. Where did he disappear to?", I say, quite irritated.
"Samaira, why don't you wait outside the school gate.", Jazz suggests. Naina and Tahira agree.
"That's exactly what I'm gonna do. I ain't giving up that easy.", I say, all detemined to see him up front, and stare for however long I want to."This is crazy. That Destiny thing worked again!", I say as Jasmeet, Tahira, Naina and I stand outside the school gates.
"Naina, let's push her onto Y as soon as he gets here", Jazz says mischieveously.
"Oh please. Don't you even think about it!", I tell her. "The consequences of that would make you cry."
"Let's just see what we'd do when we see him", Naina tells Jazz.
"I beg of you both. Don't embarress me, please!", I request them.
We wait for about 15 minutes after which Tahira gets bored and leaves. Then I see him reaching the gates with a few of his friends. He's wearing a light blue and gray Puma jacket and has his shirt in his hands. I get a good glimpse and I can sense the next thing happening. I move a few steps back. Naina and Jasmeet have seen him coming, too, and are now ready to shove me in his direction. They both get hold of my bag as I turn around, and pull at it with all their strength. I know they weren't kidding; they will push me onto him in the next few seconds and my life will be ruined. To prevent any cringe-worthy happenings, I move in the opposite direction with all my might. It's hard to focus your strength when you're laughing this hard. I have an idea. I let go of my bag and it hits the both of them as it flungs back. I'm safe now.
I see Y at a safe distance, though not too far but there's a crowd between us so I can relax now.
"You idiots! I could have died!", I say, pushing Jasmeet on Naina. They are still recovering from the laugh attack."I have to leave now, I'm getting late for the bus.",Jasmeet says. Naina and I bid her goodbye and start moving towards the spots from where our school vans pick us up.
We just move about a few steps that we see that he's still here. I turn to Naina with a suggestive grin.
Wait, who is that girl he's standing there with?
