The traffic of students move in front of us, and we move over to the left side, just beside the wall of a residential building that stands near our school. The crowd walks past us, to the left, and we stand facing exactly opposite to where Y stands with his friends. He's getting his shirt signed by a teacher I don't know much about, beside the fact that she's a primary wing teacher and seems pretty submissive.
It's a considerable distance yet I ask Naina to act natural and not suspicious. I look at him for short intervals of time, while being careful not to draw much attention to myself as the sea of students move past us; some of them even giving us funny looks, I could tell.
But each time I look at him, it's hard to divert my eyes. A giddy-ish feeling takes over me and I can barely manage to suppress my grin.
"That jacket really suits him.", I say, realising how much of a treat he must appear in the eyes of other senior girls, including the few friends of his that I see.
Two of his friends leave, leaving him alone with that girl I saw him all chirpy with a few minutes ago. She has her hair untidily open in what I assume to be a lame attempt to look hot on a memorable day such as today. It's a trait pretty common with most school girls these days and easy to spot once you see that the girl looks either slight concious, or over-confident about herself and her hair. Over-confidence and untidy hair in this case.
I see them both laughing and enjoying themselves while they chat with that teacher. Suddenly the girl drops something and as she bends down to pick it up, Y playfully ruffles her hair.
"What was that!", I am getting suspicious about her now. I keep decling subconsiously that they could be more than friends.Naina has a little laugh seeing me go nuts on such a slight event. It occurs to me that it's getting pretty late, and I wouldn't have mind if I was alone. But Naina's been with me all this while and don't want her to get late just because of my stupid temptation. Just when I am about to leave with her, we spot Y and one if his friends moving ahead.
"Finally!", I exclaim and Naina and I follow him, as he moves with the girl towards the way we take everyday.
He moves a distance and then stops to get his shirt signed by Ms.Tanya who is standing at the edge of the park. "She must have been his Social Science teacher until 10th grade, too", I say in a low voice. Suddenly I begin to wonder how he must be in his studies. The sincerity on his face says good, but you can't really tell until you know someone yourself.
My thoughts are interrupted as he moves forward. Naina and I behind him, ever so unnoticably increasing our pace so as to get right behind him. He takes out his cell phone and is now talking with someone. We both try to get as near as possible, but strangly enough, he seems to go even farther as we try to reach near him. He stops abruptly for a moment, only to take a sharp turn to the left. "Oh, no", I groan. We have to go straight and he went out of our way. We both are moving ahead as I occasionally take a look behind. "Forget it, Sam. He's gone the other way. Not gonna come now", Naina says. "I guess so", I say.
We reach the corner edge of the park from where we part. Not more than a few moments later, I sit inside the van, my bag on my lap while my gaze outside the opened window to the right side. On the other side of the road I see some more seniors, still excitedly talking to one another, signing shirts and getting theirs signed too. Rashmi is there, too, clicking selfies with a number of people.
I'm getting bored now as the driver takes time to return with some kids that are dropped home by the same van. 'What if Y appears here', I randomly think looking at Rashmi and her friends chilling across the road.My eyes almost pop out as I see what happens the very next instant.
