Kali turned around, examined the top from behind and flicked her tongue. It was yellow and backless which she didn't mind but the yellow didn't match with her black hair and blue eyes.

Nope.

She pulled it off and put on her own clothes, black jeans and a dark red top. She left the changing room to meet her best friend Maya who already waited for her outside.

As Maya saw Kali from afar she went to her and asked, "How did it look like?" Kali grimaced.

"Ugly," she answered and Maya sighed.

"Alright then, we have to continue to look for a cute top." She linked her arm with Kali's.  It was a week before their first day of school. They decided to make a good impression in their last year so the two best friends were looking for new clothes.

"It is our last year, which means our lives start soon," Maya said. "Let's buy something new, something trendy and fresh for this occasion. We have to start being independent." Kali nodded.

"I like new stuff, my old clothes are pretty but something new here and then can't hurt, right?" They were looking through the clothes of every shop and stopped sometimes to try something on.

"In which classes did they put you in?" Kali asked Maya as she was looking at her reflection in a mirror.

Maya answered from the dressing room next to her. Kali imagined her in the blue top and was wondering if it would match Maya's green eyes. Since she got dark brown hair it would look nice.  "I don't know everything from memory but I am in AP Biology 2 and AP PE 5. I think Math is class 5, too, and Arts should be 1. I am not sure, though. Everything else I would have to look up."

"How unlucky, I have AP Biology, too, but 1. I got my schedule yesterday." Kali tugged at her red top.

"You finally got your schedule?" Kali heard Maya saying in front of her door.

Maya must be done already. She looked at herself one more time. I like this top, dark red looks good. It is kinda cute. AND it's soft, the fabric is amazingly comfortable.

Kali changed and got out of the room.

"Yeah, I got it. Let's look this evening together to see which classes are the same." They went to the cashier so that Kali could buy her top.

"It would be nice if we had at least two classes together each day, then I am not lonely all the time," Maya said whereat her friend nodded affirming. She would definitely like that.

"Is there someone you don't want to have any classes with?" She asked and Kali was silent for a moment.

Is there?

"I think I wouldn't like to be in a class with Landon Cooper, he is pretty arrogant and dumb. Always trying to get girl's attention with his muscles," she answered finally.

"Well," Maya said winking. "He got your attention if you noticed it, right?" Kali laughed loudly.

"I guess you're right, but you also know exactly what I mean."

Maya laughed, "Yeah, I know. He truly would be annoying but I got the feeling there is no really annoying person at our school. I mean, of course there are some that I don't like but it's possible to ignore them most of the time. And if not, then I just make fun of them in my head since you probably won't be with me." This made Kali stop laughing.
She looked at Maya.

"This is kinda sad, you know?" She frowned at the thought of being in class without Maya. Last year it was alright since they had almost all classes together. This year though they took a lot of different courses and even the ones that are the same, the chances to be together were minor.

"It is," Maya agreed and poked Kali's side. "We still have the breaks though so don't you dare forget about me when you find new friends." They smiled.

"I won't and you aren't allowed to do that either."

In the evening they found out that they had only three classes together, Arts 2, Math 5 and History 1.

"It could be though that we can see each other in PE, we have this one at the same time. If we are in the same gym then we can talk," Maya said over the phone. Kali looked at her schedule. She was sitting on her bed and the paper in front of her on the blanket.

"When do you have PE?"

Maya was silent for a moment before she answered.

"Tuesday and Friday in the fifth and sixth class." Kali looked at her schedule.

"Yes! It's the same! I think we have a high possibility to be in the same gym because I do gymnastics while you play basket ball. There is no basket ball field outside," she exclaimed excited.

"Kali!" Her mother shouted from downstairs.

Kali looked at the clock on the bedside table, 7 pm.

"I have to go Maya, it's dinner time," she said to her best friend and hung up to go downstairs.

In the kitchen Kali saw her mother placing plates on the table so she got the pot with soup and put it right in the middle. Her mother looked like Kali. She was short, around 5'3, and had dark brown hair. The blue eyes were a bit brighter than her daughter's but she had those laughter lines that made everyone look friendly immediately.

Kali knew though that she had her body condition from her father. He may was like 5'7 but he never became sick, just like her. He had grey eyes and short dark brown hair. Kali loved her parents whole heartedly. They were her rocks, her steady flow in the life. They would never judge her, accuse maybe but not judge.

"Hey, Sweetie!" Her father hugged Kali from behind and she smiled.

"Hi, how's everything going?" She asked. Her mother nodded.

"I tried a new dish, let's see if it can make it into our recipe list." The family sat down and Kali put soup on everyone's plate.

"Monday is your first day of your last school year, are you excited?" Kali's mother asked as she blew on her spoon full of soup to make it less warm.

"Anna, what are you even asking?" Her husband said playfully. "Of course she is, school is the most boring thing in the world, Kali can't wait to go there again." They laughed.

"I actually am more excited than I thought," Kali admitted smiling. "We will be the oldest students and my schedule is not as full as last year. Exams are going to be at the end of the year so only the classes that I take exams in are the classes that I have to go to. It won't be easy but at least it won't be much." She shrugged. "I think I can do it." Her parents nodded.

"Will, what do you think of the soup?" Kali's mother asked. He paused and ate a spoon full of it.

"I like it, I guess we can do that more often. Is it complicated to prepare?"
