The hall was colorfully decorated, pictures on the walls and big chandeliers hung from the ceiling. She stepped inside and looked around to find her friends. The lights from the stage bathed the whole room in orange and red colours as the band played a calm song, heralding the end of the evening and with this the end of the whole year. The time she loved, in which she laughed and cried and learned so many new things that Kali wasn't sure if she should be happy or sad.
She spotted her friends and hurried over to them. Her dark blue dress was long and Kali wasn't used to long dresses so she was scared to step on it. As she arrived everyone gave her a sympathic look and a pat apart from Maya.
"Hi, Kali," Maya greeted her with a smile and a hug. "How are you? I'm glad you came. I got something for you." She fetched a silver hair slide out of her green pocket and put it in Kali's hair. Then she smiled.
"It looks perfect, I'm a genius. I knew silver would look amazing with your black hair," Maya said contently.
"You look good, too," Kali said so softly that Maya was barely able to hear her. "Green was always your favourite colour and I just knew that you would choose a green dress." She didn't lie. Maya's brown hair was curled and framed her face perfectly. Her floor length green dress matched with her green eyes for which she only used a touch of makeup. She truly looked beautiful.
"Let's get something to drink," Maya said and they both walked over to the bar. The evening went by very quickly and everyone tried to talk to Kalila and ask her questions which she would ignore since it wasn't their business. All the time, Maya squeezed her hand and lent her support while Kalila stayed silent. At some point the people left her alone and finally the two friends had time for themselves. They sat at the bar, drank wine and didn't talk. Everything was peaceful, the music calm and most people had left. Kali enjoyed the time and closed her eyes.
For the first time in forever she left her room to be with her friends and it wasn't as bad as she thought. Maybe, just maybe she could be fixed. These past months seemed almost like a dream but the lack of emotions brought her back to reality. She couldn't be changed. People don't change. They may be able to keep up a facade but in the end nothing would change and nothing will ever. Kali learnt this lesson the hard way and the hope she held deep within her only came to the outside to be crushed. The worst part however is that she didn't even care. If emotions hurt that much, she didn't need them. Kali could live her life just fine like that.
"Kali," Maya called her and nudged her shoulder. "Kali, look." She pointed behind her and continued to drink her glass of wine. Kali however turned around to see him.
And everything came back crushing down on her. All the memories and feelings she experienced, yet she still didn't feel anything at this moment.
Or that's what she thought.
