"Hey Dipper! I heard you got yourself a date!" Mabel leant across the table, shoving her face in Dipper's cappuccino. The pre teen stared, intense interest blazed in her chocolate brown eyes. "Spill. EVERYTHING."

Dipper smirked in response, but remained silent, gently nursing his coffee.

"I bet it's her! I admire ya bro bro, finally talking to Wendy!"

"I-it's not Wendy...I mean she's cute and all but I don't like her like her..." Brown haired and simple, Dipper was a rather naive young boy, who had previously been known for having a very large crush on Wendy Corduroy, one of the new waitresses at Greasy's Diner. However, it was not this fact that had exclusively led him to come for coffee here often. It was in fact the recent rise in ghoul activity that had peaked the young tween's interest. After all, the diner was the number one place to find information on matters such as this. Dipper could not quite tell what it was about ghouls that caught his attention, he just seemed to have an avid ambition to pursue them, especially the notorious binge eater. He often spent much time deliberating what it would be like to be a ghoul.

Mabel on the other hand, was ever so slightly taller than her brother and had very little interest in the affairs that dominated the headlines. Instead, Mabel was obsessed with finding out rumours about the townsfolk to gawk at. The diner served as her place to absorb as much general overheard chatter as possible to spill later to her friends. However, the one thing she could never avoid were the nervous ramblings of civilians about the ghoul situation. Although she hated to admit it, the genuine reason for Mabel avoiding all this was deep down, she was absolutely terrified. Terrified to the point that she was currently staging a very small but subtle protest, wearing a white and red sweater, with the words, 'Girls before Ghouls' written on it in bold, blue letters.

"Do you ever take your head out that stupid book?" The bored sister pressed Dipper. He looked at her sideways.

"Yes, but I'm just reading..."

"About ghouls? Bro you need to let it go! The chances of you finding one near here are extremely slim!"

"I know...but think about it for a second. The binge eater was sighted in this exact area only last night! Any one of these people could be it..." Dipper trailed off, momentarily distracted by something behind Mabel.

"What-?" Mabel spun round and followed her sibling's gaze. A girl who looked about their age with long bleach blonde hair and startling blue eyes entered the diner and sat down at a booth near them. Turning back to her brother, Mabel suddenly lashed out at Dipper. "Who was that then? Why are you staring at her? When will you learn it's-"

"That's her. The girl I'm going on a date with." Dipper cut across his sister to avoid the continuous barrage of questions flooding at him.

Mabel stopped and looked between the two of them. "She's kinda cute y'know..."

"Are you hitting on my girl?!" Dipper protested.

"What if I am...who said I have to like boys, huh?" After the satisfaction of her brother's shocked expression, she relented. "I'm joking! Geez, lighten up Dipstick!" Mabel punched his arm playfully.

"Anyways, see ya round loser!" She deposited a random assortment of coins on the table. "There! That should cover the cost of my latte! Text me and tell me how your weird nerd date went."

And with a sweeping flourish, Mabel left the diner, winking at Wendy on her way out.

Dipper sighed and scooped up the loose change, inhaling deeply, then he approached the girl who he had organised to meet with. "Hey...it's Pacifica, right?" He asked cautiously.

She looked at him with a friendly smile that reached her eyes. "You must be Dipper, please take a seat...I won't bite!"

He sidled into the booth seat opposite her. "Can I get you anything?"

Pacifica simply shook her head. "No. No need. I already ate before we came out...sorry for that..."

Northwest smiled again, rather relieved that Dipper didn't notice as she wiped the tiny blood stains from the corners of her mouth with a napkin.
