Chapter 17 A Family Meal

We soon headed back to the house, I was a bit apprehensive because I didn't want another confrontation with Belle. As soon as we got in we were greeted by Aiden's mum telling us that dinner would be at half 7, so we headed upstairs to get dressed into some more appropriate clothing.

"Ok how do I look?" I asked coming out of the bathroom in a blue beach dress with a white kimono, my hair in beachy waves and rather natural make up, I thought maybe looking like this rather than my crazy self might be more appropriate.

"You look different," Aiden titled his head to one side.

"Different?" I raised my eyebrow at him.

"It's weird seeing you so not over the top it's nice though I like it," he smiled. He was wearing some light brown chino's and a pale blue shirt looking sexy as hell.

"I know I thought something less out there might be better for the first family meal," I shrugged.

"I don't know I think you should just be yourself..." he mumbled.

"But this is me just another side I guess I like this stuff just not as often as normal girls," I smiled kissing his cheek.

"Ok then," he smiled.

"We ready to rock n roll?" I smirked see I was still there a tad I winked just to reassure him.

"We must certainly are gorgeous." He took my hand and we headed downstairs and out to the back patio where we were to be having this family meal.

"Here they are," Aiden's dad smiled at us sat at the head of the table his mum to his left and Belle to his right, Aiden pulled the chair out next to his mum for me which was probably a better idea than having me sit next to Belle at least now I only had to deal with her glares.

"So Robyn what do your parents do?" His mum asked.

"Uh," I almost choked on my water, "my mum works for an airline so does a lot of traveling and my father I don't really know exactly we're not on the best of terms," I explained trying to not lie but not tell the whole truth either.

"Oh how lovely you must be rather independent then having your mum gone a lot of the time," she smiled.

"Yes I guess I am, although your son has been great support since I moved to the academy, I couldn't have asked to have met such a wonderful guy you must be very proud of him," I smiled at her.

"We are indeed although I hear that someone is trying to out do him on the football field," she smiled softly at me.

"You play football?" Belle questioned with a tone of disgust.

"Yer actually I do," I smiled at her.

"How did you manage to get on the team?" His dad pipped in.

"I use to play at my old school so I went to the tryouts and landed myself a place on the squad they're a great team of players we're doing well this year," I smiled.

"Seems like you are having a great season," he replied.

"Yes we have been," I smiled.

"So do you have any ambitions of where you want to go to college?" His mum smiled at me.

"Not really, I've never quite considered college to be honest," I shrugged.

"Well Aiden here is going to try for a football scholarship, we have a long line of those in our family." His dad smiled proudly at his son.

"He hadn't mentioned that," I mumbled glaring at him.

"We'll talk about it later," he whispered in my ear giving my hand a squeeze.

The food came out then thankfully, we had a soup to start I couldn't work out exactly what it was something fancy that I probably won't have again. This was followed with salmon and a rice thing, I was realizing exactly how common I was while I sat there amongst all the different cutlery and glasses, it was just really confusing, I tried to look like I knew what was happening but I had no idea.

I was grateful that the conversation had turned into the plans for the rest of the holiday the next day we made plans to go into the city to go ice skating, I'd never been to New York before and it sounded so exciting I was really looking forward to it.

"So Robyn, tell us more about you," His mum smiled warmly at me.

"I uh I don't think there's much to tell I'm not the most exciting person really," I laughed.

"Got that right," Belle mumbled under her breath but loud enough so we could all hear it.

"Excuse me?" I turned to her.

"What?" she glared at me.

"Belle that's no way to treat our guest apologize immediately!" Her father told her.

"I apologize Robyn," she rolled her eyes. I just looked at Aiden he mouthed sorry I shrugged. I still didn't quite get what the big issue with me was.

"Who wants desert?" his mother smiled.

"What do we have?" Aiden asked.

"Uh pie a lot of it so you all have to have some this includes you Belle," she smiled at her daughter.

"I'm up for pie," I smiled.

"Right coming up let me just go and get it from the kitchen." She went to the kitchen for a moment and returned with a gorgeous looking pie.

"It look delicious," I smiled.

"Thank you Robyn, I like to bake and this is one of Aiden's favorite's I make it for him every time he comes home." She looked at her son fondly.

Soon we were all eating the pie, I noticed how belle basically just played with it rather than actually eating it, I had shoved mine down, I couldn't help it, it was fantastic, I would have to get Aiden to try and get his mum to make us one to take back with us.

Then we were all just chatting for a bit Belle didn't really talk think that was the effect I was having it was nice to see a family that got on so well, that can have this openness, I only wish that I could have that. Actually I just wish I had a normal family, I've never sat at the table like this, not even with just my mum. We didn't exactly have the traditional mother daughter bond. I was almost always alone, I guess her sending me to boarding school was her way of escaping the guilt of leaving me. I wasn't mad at her though, I felt bad for her really. She was married to my dad for crying out loud I probably reminded her of her him and I wouldn't want to be around me either. I needed to get out of this slump and try and concentrate on the actual conversation and not letting these thoughts register on my face.

"You guys going to join us to watch the football?" Aiden's dad asked us, Aiden looked at me for an answer.

"Sure, I haven't watched a game in forever," I smiled, Aiden took hold of my hand squeezing it looking at me with concern I just smiled back letting him know I was fine.

"Great well the match starts in an hour so we'll see you kids in the living room then?" his mum smiled.

"Yer mum, I'm not about to miss that game," Aiden replied standing up pulling me with him.

"The food was great," I smiled before I was dragged away.

I guess the family meal wasn't that bad.
