Ok hey! If you already know the whole Dancetale just then you can skip this little explaining part. All character's ages etc. is explained in the next part to avoid confusion.

Dancetale is an alternate universe (Concept belongs to: http://teandstars.tumblr.com/)

All the bolded parts below are from the concept creator's blog. I suggest you read it if you have no knowledge on this AU.

Dancetale concepts:
Some basic info on the characters:
Frisk initially didn't know how to dance upon falling, but being exposed to the "aura" of the underground, they gained to ability to dance.
Asriel excelled at the waltz. He's known to be very mesmerizing when he dances. He's also known to make others feel happier after dancing with him.

Sans used to be an avid dancer; science isn't the only thing he's passionate about. However, upon gaining knowledge of the resets, he stopped. He's more graceful that you would think.
Toriel hasn't danced in awhile since Frisk came along. (So has Asgore)
Paps loves dancing with Frisk, as much as he loves cooking spaghetti.
When she's nervous, Alphys dances to anime songs to let off steam. (Undyne does this too, when she's stressed.)
Undyne loves to do the Capoeira (her dance). She's a powerhouse, I mean, she suplexes a boulder cause she can. She tries to get Pap to do it too, except he gets too excited and ends up doing the cha cha, much to her dismay.
The ghost cousins loved to dance a lot before they went their separate ways. (Maybe?? They even formed a DANCE GROUP??)

What is dancing to the monsters?
Dancing is an important part of their culture (much like puzzles are. It should be noted that to solve puzzles, dancing is needed). It's a part of their life. For monsters, dancing is a way to express oneself. It brings happiness, hope, and joy. It is a way of communicating.

When a monster is born...
They're born with the ability to dance. It's instinctive. Like love and compassion, it's a big part of their soul. Each monster specializes in a certain style of dancing...this is their "main dance". However, monsters are not limited to one dance; they may know two or more. Others seem to excel in multiple dances, but what they choose as their main dance is up to them. Though all monsters have the ability to dance, some choose not to. It's all about preference.
Sometimes dancing buds early...or blooms late for a monster... But it always remains.

Why can all monsters dance, and why do they have the exceptional ability to do so, young or old?
In this AU, Dancing has been a part of monster culture for generations and generations. Like a gene, it is inherited. Monster magic has imbued that talent into their DNA. They don't need to learn it; they already know it from the time they're born. This magic is in their blood, but it emanates from the monsters themselves, like an aura. So, if a human were to be exposed to this sort of thing upon first contact, they would be given the ability to dance even if they aren't aware of it at first. (In Frisk's case)
Dancing and fighting:
Monsters seamlessly coordinate their dance and their attacks (Even if they're not that great at attacking...).They utilize their dance moves to aid in battle.

When dancing:
It is customary for monsters to bow before dancing. It is taken as a polite gesture before taking part in the dance. But, if you don't bow, it's okay. No one will get mad at you. It would be rude not to finish the dance, though.
When two monsters dance, and they are dancing for fun, leisure, or the like, their SOULs resonate. If mutual consent was given to dance and the two are compatible, a stronger bond is formed between the two. (Along with better understanding, empathy, respect, and love (platonic or romantic). A connection is developed. It doesn't matter if the dance style is the same or not; if they are compatible, their styles will meld, creating a balanced, harmonious dance. However, the least compatible the monsters are, the less they are likely to form a bond. Their SOULs do not resonate. This is unlikely as two monsters who generally dislike each other will choose not to dance at all.
This is different in the context of battle. SOULs do not resonate when ill feelings are apparent between two opposing forces. However, this does not apply to monsters. It's not explicitly stated that monsters fight other monsters.

What happens when a human and a monster dance?
If the human has a good friendship with a monster, their SOULs will resonate. The human brings strength to both themselves and their partner. Just like the bit mentioned above, they also form a stronger bond and get everything that comes with it.
If a monster dances to attack and defend against an attacking human, no connection, no bond can be developed. Rather, negative feelings will surround the air.
If you've read up to this point, thanks for reading!

Some extra stuff:
Frisk knows how to dance ballet because of Chara. There's this sort of magic that lingers with these monsters, and this magic allows the gift of dancing to anyone, even humans. Frisk got the ability to dance because of the exposure to the magic. But, because they fell on the bed of flowers where Chara was buried, Frisk's dance became somewhat influenced by the lingering essence of Chara. Ballet, which is (kind of) similar to, but the opposite of modern dance.

In a no mercy run:
So Chara does manipulate Frisk's body. The thing here, though–since their SOULs are linked you can catch Chara dancing ballet in combat–but unwillingly. Chara is mostly in control of both the body and the soul, of course, but Frisk still has some power, and they use that power to try to rebel against Chara's doings through unexpected ballet moves. It's Frisk's way of trying to stop Chara and help Sans (In this AU, anyway.) After all, Chara's dance is, I guess, somewhat the opposite of ballet. Modern dance is meant to rebel against ballet, but this time Frisk is turning it around.

Disclaimer- I do not own any of the art nor the concept.
