I sat down and let my head fall on the tree behind me. I couldn't keep running. Sooner or later, Peter or some other vampire was going to find me and that was it. But did I really want to keep living?
The vampires were making my life a living hell and I hated being controlled like I was. It would be better if I were dead.
"Running away from your master, I take it."
I jumped and opened my eyes to see something... odd. There was a vampire standing in front of me in a full tuxedo with the long jacket, white gloves, and top hat to match. He had a mustache that curled at each end and one glass on his right eye. He seemed harmless but I knew not to trust vampires.
He held out a hand. "Sir Matthew Jameson. And you are?"
"Just a human." I said, not taking his hand.
He walked over to me and knelt down in front of me. "Do not be afraid of me because of what I am. I mean you no harm."
"I'm just food for you."
"Who told you that?"
"Every vampire that's ever owned me."
"Well things aren't going to be like that anymore." He took my hand and lifted me to my feet. "You're coming with me."
My eyes widened. I expected to me taken by a vampire but I didn't want it to be with him.
He picked me up in his arms and running.

"Human, wake up. We're home."
Matthew took my arm and led me through a door and into the kitchen. All of the appliances were state of the art and cleaned to perfection.
He led me to the table and pulled out a chair for me to sit in. "You need to eat."
I watched him run around the kitchen, gathering up different cans and containers of food. He stopped at the stove and turned the burners on.
"How did you the big welt on your face?" He asked, not turning around to face me.
"My last owner."
"He shouldn't be allowed to do that to you."
"It's not like I can fight back. I'm just a human."
"Any morally right person wouldn't hit someone, regardless of what they are or not."
"Why do you feel that way?" All vampires ever thought about was getting blood. They didn't care how.
He turned around, holding a spatula in his hand. "It's common sense. Scientists and psychiatrists have been studying it for years."
"None of that matters anymore. Just survival. And I'm really not trying at this."
"I'm sorry you feel that way. But you are safe here. You may stay or you may leave but please heal yourself before you go back out there. This world is a mad place and I'd hate to see someone like you get caught up in it."
