Chapter 4
The day came that I didn't want to come; going back to school. I hadn't gone since Lilly passed away, meaning I missed a whole week of school. I couldn't afford to miss anymore, especially since this was the beginning of the year.
It was also Flynn's first day at the school. He had been homeschooled while being fostered but now that he had been adopted by my mom, he was able to attend school.
I hadn't slept much on the weekend. I was up almost all night thinking about Death by Death and how Logan and I were their next targets. I tried convincing myself that it was a joke, a prank, but I knew it wasn't. Not when Death by Death's official signature and stamp were at the bottom of the letter.
Mom pulled into the parking lot of the school. "Have fun, you two," she said.
"What? Nobody has fun in school," Flynn said.
"I know that," Mom said. "It's a parent thing to say. Infinity, make sure you keep an eye on Flynn."
"Okay," I said in a quiet voice. For the past week or so, I normally talked in a quiet voice. I wasn't really in the mood to talk louder.
We got out of the car and I led Flynn inside the school and to the office for him to get his schedule. Once he got it, as well as his locker number and combination, we left the office. "You can go find your boyfriend --I mean, best friend," Flynn said. "I can find my locker by myself."
"You sure?" I asked.
"It shouldn't be too hard," Flynn said. "Peace out, sister."
When he walked off, I made my way to Logan's locker, hoping her would be there. He was, thankfully, digging through his already mess of a locker to find something. He saw me walk over and gave me a small smile. "I didn't know you were coming today," he said.
"I had to," I said. "I couldn't miss anymore and it's Flynn's first day."
"Well, I promise I won't leave your side," Logan said. "Except for when we have separate classes."
"Thanks," I said.
"How are you feeling?" Logan asked.
"About...."
"Everything, I guess," Logan said. "Lilly, Death by Death...."
I sighed. "Horrible. I couldn't sleep. Couldn't eat today. I just....I wish I could crawl into a hole and sleep forever."
"Yeah, me too," Logan said. "I know it's affecting you more, but...."
"I know, she was your best friend too," I said. "The Three Musketeers....Now two....I didn't even want to come to school today. I could barely keep my emotions in and if her name is ever brought up in class, I probably won't keep it in and...."
"Hey," Logan said softly. "Fin, it's okay to let your emotions go. Keeping them bottled inside actually makes it worse."
"But I don't want to start crying in the middle of class," I said, wiping a few tears away.
"Fin," Logan said, resting his hands on my shoulder. "We only have one class that we don't have together. The other classes, excluding gym, we sit beside each other. If you're ever feeling too emotional during that class we don't share, just ask if you can go for a walk and find me, okay?"
"Okay," I said.
Logan then pulled me into one of his comforting hugs, wrapping his arms tightly around me. "I'll always be here for you," he said. "No matter when or what. I'll be here."
