THE LAST QUESTION

It was the moment of silence after that, be it for 10-15 minutes though. For that time the only thing they both could hear was the train leaving the tracks rattled and an infant yelling for milk on the berth next to them. While both of them continued staring at each other in dilemma!

"Oh God! Why you do this to me? Aren't eight semesters enough to answer all the questions and now this girl sits in front of me, behaving as if she's the external examiner?" Samar banged his head as he just thought of it.

Meanwhile, Khyati still had the urge to know more about him and all those stuff that happened. And finally she uttered "Samar would you mind answering one LAST QUESTION?"

"Are you going to give me a million dollar for that?" prompted Samar, who found her questions silly.

"Naah, Do I even have that much money?" said Khyati, as she laughed along.

"Then what's my benefit in answering?" asked Samar.

"Let's do a deal then, I'll not ask any questions afterwards if u answer me sincerely. Ok? So now be a good boy and answer my question." said Khyati as she actually made that deal all by herself.

"Ok. Go ahead!"

There was a bit of spark that rushed through his eyes, maybe it was all because of Khyati's childish behavior but what really mattered was the rejuvenation in Samar.

"How did you manage all these years?" asked Khyati, as she sighed, it was too difficult for her to keep that question inside for so long!

"What was there to manage? I had a very calm hostel, a generous laundry person, and the food at the mess was really awesome. And for your knowledge my family do had my contact details!!" Samar answered as he just wanted to skip on the other part of the story.

"Ahh, You idiot! Don't tell me that you didn't get the question? And don't try to act smart, we were in same class for 12 long years! Isn't it enough to know a person?" Khyati yelled at Samar and the whole compartment just stares at them.

"Ok girl, calm down! Tell me what exactly you want me to say?" asked Samar.

"How you managed without her? Now did you get that? Stupid!" alleged Khyati.

Samar stops for a while as he just wants to sum it up in few words. He never wanted an elaborate discussion on that. He never wanted people to judge them, to judge their perfections or what the world might call imperfections.

And finally he expressed, "We were the two souls so much connected that now there are just two different bodies and a single thing that dwells, that is OUR SOUL, so whenever I need some advice or I want to talk to her, I just talk to myself and believe it or not, it's our soul that always answers."

Samar just stops there; just wanted Khyati to ponder over it, as he just didn't want more questions.
And Khyati was just left open-mouthed as the train stopped at some unknown railway station, she just couldn't seek for a perfect reply.

"Khyati, just close your mouth, there are many houseflies here at the railway station." Samar laughed.

"Well well, you escaped dude, you did well!" Khyati smiled while she spoke.

"Are you planning any biopic kind of thing on me?" Samar pronounced.

"Who knows" (she laughed.)

That moment atmosphere just turned lighter and healthier as they both got engaged in some talks on and off. Maybe Samar just wanted to skip on few things, but he always knew that he wasn't saddened by all that, he just knew that it was the awkward stage of his life which he has to see through it all by himself or maybe talking to Preeti was the way out. But for him talking to anyone else was just about letting people have some short stories for their gossips, which he never liked.
