"Good Lord...who are you and what have you done with our Kasey?"
"Shut up." Kasey muttered, slipping her hand in Tony's to allow him to help her out of the carriage, as was proper. Dick gaped at her over Tony's shoulder. She landed softly on her feet and self consciously dusted her skirts.
"Well?"
"Well what?" Dick gawked.
"Is it okay?!"
They took in her perfectly coiffed hair, the stately emerald dress encased over a corset choking her already slim frame, the long elegant gloves frosting her arms, looking baffled.
"It's...something."
Lady Beecham, who was one of the many mediators between their two worlds and housed them, had been ecstatic to let lose her maid on Kasey, assuring her when it was done that she looked the perfect depiction of English Ladyhood. Or something of the sort.
"I'm going back." Kasey said, alarmed, and turned around, but Tony stopped her with a tug at the elbow.
"Kasey...it looks perfect, I suppose. We're just not used to seeing you so..."
"Put together." Dick provided. He motioned around his head, adding for further emphasis, "Womanly."
Tony noded fervently, "You look..." Tony tilted his head.
"Pretty? In a way." Dick mused.
"Right. Delicate."
"But deadly. Like a bow and arrow."
"Like a rose. But definitely one with—"
"Thorns. And—"
"Alright, enough!"
They both shut up amidst their enthusiastic descriptions under her glare. She took a deep breath and let it out exasperatedly, thinking she oughtn't be surprised they hadn't compared her to an English rose and left it at that. She would never be one of the perfect women strolling around them in Hyde Park, and until recently, it hadn't ever bothered her.
She would never have attempted the ensemble if it hadn't been essential to gaining an audience with the Earl, who, according to their research, had a taste for high class women...cuckolding their husbands.
She didn't have a husband. But she did have...
She fixed a syrupy sweet smile on Tony, "Are you ready, my love?"
He shivered uncomfortably, "That's creepy, that is. Hearing those words from you."
She placed her hand on his elbow, squeezing painfully for good measure, and they set off. Dick hung behind them, looking amused. "Why don't I get to be your fiance?"
"Because you're too immature for anyone to believe I could fall for you." Kasey grinned, raising her nose.
"And you've always been the very epitome of maturity." he murmured wickedly.
"We need to quell your jealousy before we encounter the Earl, little brother." Tony jibed, and they both glanced at each other before laughing at the ridiculousness of them being jealous over Kasey. She rolled her eyes.
They set off, taking a few rounds around Hyde Park, with Dick 'chaperoning' them but only taking the opportunity surreptitiously fling water droplets at them when they passed by a pond or to try to trip Tony when they took a turn. Tony wasn't any better though, despite his more intelligent appearance. Kasey left them for a few moments to speak to a familiar face, and returned to find the two of them yelling at each other, embroiled in a sword fight with wooden swords they'd borrowed from little boys standing around watching them and laughing in glee.
