Weston POV:

"So we are still on for tonight, right?" I looked over at my Dad and nodded. "Yeah," I groaned finishing some homework. It was Tuesday night as I sat at the table trying to focus on my homework. Luckily Ian didn't show his face at school or I would have turned him in to the principal. Ever since my dad came back, things have changed. He doesn't agree with me dating Savanna because he thinks I'm too young when my mom thinks it's cute for a boy my age to be in "love." "Dad, seriously. Why can't Savanna come?" He scoffed and looked up from his newspaper giving me a cold look. "Weston, I told you. It's a guy's night. Is Savanna a guy? No, she's not. And plus, how often do you get sent two free tickets to the Cougars? It's awesome!" I rolled my eyes and went back to my homework. At least her dad was back so she wasn't alone. I glanced down at my phone as a message from Savanna popped up.

PrincessJ : Hey, you busy tonight? My dad's leaving for some stupid date. Netflix and relax?

I groaned and thought about how she was going to be all alone tonight. I texted back:

Me: I'm so sorry babe. My stupid dad wants to take me for a guys night out. I don't want to go but he's making me. :-(

I leaned back in my chair sighing as my mom walked in and kissed me on the head. "Hey honey." I nodded and said, "Mom, Savanna is going to be alone tonight by herself and dad won't let her go with us tonight. I don't want to leave her alone." She rolled her eyes and laughed, "Weston. I'm sure she can go one night without you. Go spend time with your dad." I groaned and folded my arms pissed. If only my mom knew everything that she's gone through, she wouldn't leave her alone for a second. I hate to say this but she's unstable and she needs me. My dad stood up and walked past me patting my shoulder. "Don't forget, 5:00. Be ready." I nodded and slammed my history book shut. My phone chimed as I looked down.

PrincessJ : It's ok. I will be fine J Have fun!!

I sighed and got up heading up the stairs to my room. I opened the door when I noticed shattered glass on the floor. There was a brick in the ground and the window was busted. I picked up the brick turning it over noticing a note that was taped to the back. I took it off and read it. Like a baby bird all alone. In comes a dog looking for a bone. "What the hell?" I mumbled as I started to clean up the mess. I threw away the brick and kept the note as I swept up the glass. "Weston, time for lunch!" My mom shouted as I yelled back, "Be there in a second!" I sat down on my bed and tried to think as hard as I could when suddenly it hit me. I pulled out my phone and typed in Google "What does the phrase "Like a baby bird all alone, in comes a dog looking for a bone" mean? In less than a second, thousands of answers popped up. I clicked the first site and scrolled down reading the description.

This phrase is a symbol for predators. Those who capture something when no one is around. This could mean a kidnapper, a robber, ect.

I looked up in fear as I began to shake. Savanna is going to be alone. Mario and Ian. Shit! The puzzle pieces started to fit as I ran downstairs and out the door. "Be right back Mom!" I shouted through the window as I crossed the street over to Savanna's. I busted through the door as Savanna turned her head from the T.V to me. "Hey," she said turning back to the T.V. "Babe, get up." I shut the door and went over to the T.V turning it off. "Weston what are you doing? I was watching that," she said in an upset tone. I picked her up and carried her to the closet closing the door. I turned on the light as Savanna yelled, "Weston, what are you-" "Shhhh." I put my hand up to her mouth and whispered as quietly as I could, "There are cameras in your house. Mario and Ian are up to something. I think they are coming here tonight because you are going to be alone." Her eyes grew with fear as she moved away my hand and whispered, "Are you sure?" I nodded and said in her ear, "They threw a brick through my window today and it had a note. It said like a baby bird all alone, in comes a dog looking for a bone. You're the baby bird. They are the dog." She frowned and crinkled her nose. "So, what should I do?" She whispered holding my hand tight. "You are going to stay with my mom tonight. Ok?" She slowly nodded as I opened the door and walked out, Savanna following. "Ok, so I am going to get my purse and come over to your house for a while before you leave. Is that ok Weston?" She said in an odd tone staring right at me. "Yeah, sounds good." I opened the front door as Savanna and I walked out. "Hang on, let me lock it." She whispered digging through her purse to find her key. I nodded and turned facing the street looking out at my neighborhood. It was quiet and calm as people walked their dogs and played in their yard. Savanna walked up beside me and grabbed my hand as we began to cross the street. "Weston, I'm really scared." She quietly said squeezing my hand. "It's ok. I am going to text you all night to make sure you are ok. And plus, you will be in my house with my mom." I kissed her hand and said, "I promise, you will be fine." She gave a half smile and nodded as we walked up the steps to my door.
