Chapter 3:

After placing the Go-Lahu style handcuffs on Seriah, as were standard procedures, I used a Hover Graph-3 to help keep her out of the sky. What the HG3 does is hover about a yard overhead and produces a holographic glowing light that immobilizes her wings. Meaning, as long as the HG3 hung over her, she could not fly. Even though I did not expect her to flee because, oddly enough, I trusted her, with or without the cuffs and HG3.

But they are rules that I had to follow, my master’s rules. Not my own.

I pull out my long distance communicator and speak into it, “DeGoro to Zarnin,” I say.

“What is it, DeGoro?!” my commander answers harshly. “What do you want?”

“I have located the Angelic and the child.” I sigh sadly as I stare at Seriah.

“WHAT?!” he thunders. “BRING THEM TO ME! NOW!!! You fucking maggot!”

“On it.” I put the comm-1 away and grin at Seriah, “Pleasant one, is he not?”

“So I see.” She frowns then smiles, shaking her head. “I have a question”

I gently picked up the sleeping boy Nicolas and stared at him. He was so tiny and cute! He had golden yellow eyes, brown hair, and two small, three and a half feet wide wings on his back. The boy is soundly sleeping in my arms and looked at peace. So…peaceful. “Ask away,” I tell her in a voice that sounds like I was in a trance.

“Why do chose to work with the Go-Lahu? I mean, why not start a rebellion? Why not fight back, if they took so much from you, why not take it back?”

I sigh heavily, shaking my head. “There is no point, what’s the point of fighting fire with fire when my fire will be extinguished long before theirs would?”

“The point?!” she scoffs quite rudely. “The point is to fight back! To fight against the ones who took from you. Think about it like this, they took the one you call ‘My Aliyah’ from you, they separated you from her, and I am going to assume that they murdered your entire family! Think of your mother, your father, and your siblings, do not think that their souls need to be avenged in order for them to finally rest in paradise?”

I fell silent, thinking of what she had just said to me. My mother? My father? My younger eight year old brother?! GONE!. They’re all gone! And there is nothing I can do about it! Nothing. I sat back over the past two years and watched the Go-Lahu kill mercilessly. I sat back and helped them with the War, post invasion. And it was I who sat back and did everything that was expected of me to not do, should my family still be here: Never betray the family nor its people or customs and traditions. I hadn’t thought about my family. But I did now.

What of My Aliyah? My one true love? Did she not deserve to be avenged as well? Yes.

NO! I have my orders and my orders are to deliver this Angelic Seriah and the Dohzla Nickol. I must comply…

“Tell me, DeGoro, have you ever known what it is like to betray your One Light?” To call someone your One Light means that you’re calling them ‘your everything’. This is just like on Earth, how humans cannot express how much they love each other in words or otherwise? This is exactly the same thing only non-humans mean this with more in-depth emotion. Before I could answer the question, she continues to speak, “I have, and I wake up every day regretting the days I didn’t tell my One Light my true emotions towards him! Now, he is somewhere far away, probably not even remembering who I am, thinking to himself, I wish I knew what went wrong.”

“You betrayed your One Light?” I asked, this I had to hear.

“Yes.”

“Please, do elaborate on the treason in which you have committed against your One Light.”

Seriah shakes her head, “Later, when I feel more comfortable talking about it.”

“Fair enough.” I shrug my shoulders. “Fair enough.”  We were now eight miles away from our destination and it was beginning to get dark out, “We have a choice,” I tell her. “We stay here and camp out for the night or we continue our trek, we’ve got eight miles to go. It’s up to you, what do you want to do?”

“How long will it be until we get there?”

“About two hours if we keep up this pace.” I noticed how tired she looked. Not only did she look tired, but she looked mentally and physically exhausted. “Better yet, let’s rest. You’re tired and I cannot afford having you pass out from exhaustion. I need you alive and alert. Besides, we have no food nor water with us so…”

“Fine, we’ll rest. “She sneered. “But you have to release me and get rid of this stupid HG3 that is floating over my head.”

With a wave of a hand, the HG3 dissolved into nothing and the leather cuffs disappeared.  “There, happy now?” I smile.

“Give me Nickol.” She snaps.

I gently hand him to her and she lays down with him, spreading her wings, she uses her wings as a blanket to keep them warm. I watched in awe as she held the child-boy close and protectively. She held onto him as if she were his mother and…

Wait! Maybe she was. Maybe she is the child’s mother, biologically or otherwise! Besides, he held onto her as if she were! As she closed her eyes and drifted to sleep, I softly spoke to her, “Seriah?” I whispered.

“Hmm?”

“Are you asleep?”

“Just about,” she replies drearily. “Why?”

“What is Nickol’s relationship to you, really?”

“He…is…my…”she began to snore softly. She was officially asleep. Amazing! How could she go to sleep just like that?! I wish it were as easy for me. But  he’s her…what? I needed to know! I don’t know why I needed to know, however I just did.

Oh well, I turned around and walked the other direction. I had to stay up for the entire night, not only to keep watch on my two catches of the day, but to keep an eye out for trouble. Just because I am an all-powerful Angelic and LGS’s top protégée, that doesn’t mean someone wont be stupid enough to challenge me.
