Riley's pov:
"Riley can you come down stairs for a second?" I heard my mum shout. Her American accent slightly showing through letting me know she's not exactly happy. I exited my room and made my way down stairs into the living room where she was located.
"Yeah mum? What's wrong?" I asked sitting down next to her. She put her head in her hands and whimpered.
"It's Carter. It's happening again." she started to sob. I wrapped my arms around her and pulled her to my chest.
"shhhhh calm down mum. What do you mean it's happening again? how do you know?"
"She came home from school with a black eye and a bust lip, when I asked her about it she said she fell onto contrete on her way home but when she left to go to her room I saw a red hand print on her shoulder." She sat up and wiped her eyes. "She practically ran to her room and I just don't know what to do."
"Do you want me to speak to her?" I asked, Carter and I are particularlly close. We never used to be but since our parents split 2 years ago our bond has grown stronger than ever. We still see him of course. But i'm not exactly happy with him.
"Please, just be careful you know how she's like." I nodded and kissed her forehead before making my way up stairs to Carter's room. My relationship with my mum is amazing. I think it's becuase she had me when she was young and bought be up on her own for two years. I could never thank her enough. I see some of the way my friends treat the parents and it really makes me question them. I got to Carters room and knocked lightly on her door.
"C, can I come in?" I heard shuffling before her door swung open. My eyes met her puffy red ones before I pulled her into my embrace. Her sobs echoing around the room.
"Why me Ry? Why me?"
