tranquilize them

my bones have broken beneath this heavy load
shattered into pieces is what I've been told
the doctors have tried everything
but cannot seem to find a way
to piece me back together
so I lay here in a bawling heap
with raised voices screaming at me
for I am not grateful for what I am given
provided with words of brutality
yet they can only use it against me
and once the rivers are allowed to flow
liquid turns to red as the flood grows
it pools into my palms as I catch each last tear
for fear they will hear the putter patter of each droplet
it will wake them from their deep slumber
this I will not risk
