Chapter 4: Burnt Mac n' Cheese

*beep*

"Ryan? Who do you keep calling Cam Cam?" Asks Mindy, my Australian Shepard-coworker for the night.

"Oh.. Just a nickname I gave to a friend." I sighed happily as a slid my phone into my pocket. We've already closed so I grabbed a mop to get some cleaning done.

"Friend? Uh-huh. We'll see how long he lasts as a "friend." She giggles with a smirk.

"Hey! I feel something special with him... And not in that way either!" I blushed slightly after the pause. She started laughing a little louder.

"Alright! Alright, calm your tail. Tell me what he's like." She said. Watching me over the counter as I start mopping. Luckily, I'm pretty good at multi-tasking.

"Well.. I don't know if you saw him earlier, but he was the light blue fox who lost his earbuds. So I took them and returned them to him once he came back.." I said and started pulling stools out from the tables.

"Aww, well aren't you just so sweet. And I think I saw him earlier too... Meh. My memory sucks. Anyways. Continue." She says as she begins to wipe down around the cash register.

"Well... He's only about an inch or two shorter than me, which I don't mind. And really... I don't know what got me to like him so much. He's funny. A little sarcastic.. Not in a mean way. He's obviously a bit shy. But it just makes him so much cuter.." I trail off as I start to think of him more.

"Ha! You totally have a crush on him! Ah! This is perfect! I bet you two would look so cute together! You should ask him to hang sometime!" She said, obviously excited and indulged in her own romantic fantasies.

"Well... Actually, we're gonna hang at the mall tomorrow. After his classes, which he only has until noon." I say. At this point she hopped over the counter and marched straight up to me.

"I'm coming with you two. Just incase anyone wants to... Ruin the evening." She says with a friendly smile. I couldn't help but smile too.

"Thanks Mindy.. Seriously. You've been a big help ever since I... Came out." I say. I couldn't help but get a little emotional. She notices and hugs me. I hug her back.

"Don't get all teary-eyed now. I ain't gonna let anything happen. Promise." She says as she lets go. I nod and thank her as I resume mopping. She walks back to the counter and finishes her shift.

"Hey Ryan, lock up when your done. And text me tomorrow!" She says and waves as she walks out the door. I nod and finish cleaning, the thoughts of tomorrow never escaping my mind.

- The next day, 10:34 a.m. -

Why do lectures have to last this long? I ponder as I rest my chin on my paw and watch the professor. watching, but not really paying attention.

Suddenly, as I feel my eyelids get heavy, my phone buzzes in my pocket and snaps me back to reality. I sneak a peak at my phone from under the desk. The message it displayed already gives me a smile.
