Bleeding your own Masterpiece

“There is nothing to write. All you do is sit down in front of a typewriter and bleed.” – Ernest Hemingway.

A quote that I recently learned in one of the trainings in my journalism class which made me appreciate more a recent experience about something I really love – books.

It was Saturday morning when my friends and I decided to attend the 34th Manila International Book Fare at the SMX Convention Center in the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City. It was about an hour drive before we arrived running, trying to find the PSICOM booth, the publishing company of the books we were about to buy. Our eyes grew in amazement when we finally found the booth where a wave of people is lining up to buy numerous books. We left with a sigh before going to the last line where we waited for about 2 hours before claiming the books we want. Although we didn’t met the cutoff for the meet and greet of the authors of the books that we just bought, we felt like a miracle just happened when they held a book signing around 6 pm where we had the chance to talk and take pictures with the authors, and of course they signed our books. It was a long tiring day but I realized that it was all worth it.

Through this experience, I realized the true meaning of sacrifice, hard work and dedication.

I definitely idolize all the authors for their hard work of creating extraordinary stories and I envy them because being a famous author is one of my dreams. I love the way they captivated a lot of readers and influenced them through their stories. If I were to become a well-respected author, I know that must first ooze all talent that I got. Writing is not an easy task and you have to bleed yourself out before creating a masterpiece.
