Lukas Mayweather
It was a normal day for Lukas and his brother Alistair. Like any other, they got up, got dressed argued over who gets shot gun and went to school. They went to class, they had them all together, and only Ali still found it funny when the teacher got them mixed up. They were thirteen already, and Luki thought it was getting old. They didn't dress the same and even had different hair styles and yet they were always confused, even family members mixed them up.
Luki just rolled his eyes and looked back down to his book. Ali hopped up and headed over to the board and answered the question as instructed. Writing out the proper table for blood donor recipients, which blood could be given to whom. They'd been discussing genes and genetic coding for a month and that day were going to get tested for their blood type. It was a school wide event in honor of blood donor week or whatever. Luki hadn't been paying close attention and really didn't care about anything other than the grade. Blood was an important thing to people, it was the defining trait that would tell if that certain someone was a super or not.
School was boring; Luki trudged through it with bored resolve while Ali raced through everything he did with bold enthusiasm. Luki loved his twin brother to bits; but sometimes it's hard when it's common knowledge to never trust a morning person, which Ali was.
"Alright class, it's two thirty, so it's time to head to the auditorium for the blood typing. The Angel Wings Laboratory is here to show us some interesting connections between blood type and super powers." Luki picked his head up from his book and frowned as excited murmurs rippled through the class room. Luki hadn't realized the Labs would be around and was a bit excited too. Who wouldn't, maybe they'd brought along some super heroes to hang out with.
Ali was practically vibrating in his seat as they waited in the auditorium, which was big enough to hold the entire student body plus another five hundred. The Angel Wings Laboratories was going to have a presentation on blood types.
The presenter was a tall blonde woman with wire frame glasses. She started with a simple greeting. "Hello Griffith Middle school, my name is Doctor Emily Sanders I'm the head physician for the care of the super heroes in the care of the Labs." They clapped as Dr. Sanders gave a quick and nervous curtsy. "Today I'll be covering the genetics involved with making a super hero. It's complicated stuff really, but I'll try to dumb it down a bit for you." Dr. Sanders clicked something in her hand and the lights dimmed while the screen behind her lit up, showing a paused video.
"Now everybody knows that super humans came about when the Antigen was poured into the water systems; which created super humans in those who had the right genetic mutations for the change to occur." The screen changed to show the blue liquid that was poured into the water with the well-known symbol of the Antigen, a swirling stylized toxic sign. The antigen was never given a proper name, in fact it still hasn't; everyone just called it the Antigen.
"However it also made others sick, even killing them. Their sacrifices will forever be remembered." Dr. Sanders paused and the whole auditorium went quiet in silent reflection for those lost. Luki was quiet as well, bowing his head in respect even though it was generations ago and no body alive could recall the events first hand.
"Now," Dr. Sanders said in a sudden cheery voice, a stark change from the solemn tone she had moments ago. "Amidst the travesty of all those deaths, we learned something. We learned that AB negative blood type is the special little blood type that always bonds with the Antigen and mutates the host's cells in fantastic ways! We also learned that O blood types, be it negative or positive, has the highest chance of rejecting the Antigen volatilely. We're still doing research on this strange behavior but as it turns out any of you, if you've got AB negative blood, could very well be a super human." The students started to murmur excitedly.
"Now, now calm down everyone. If you haven't shown signs of special powers yet it's unlikely you have AB negative blood. After all, the Antigen is still very present and very active in the water today. So you've been drinking, bathing and using the Antigen all this time. But there is always that small chance you're a late bloomer." She said.
Dr. Sanders went on to explain that the only deaths now caused by the Antigen was that of still born babies who had the strange defect in their blood that rejected the Antigen. The students got nervous then but Dr. Sanders went on to say that those kinds of deaths were dropping steadily and the Labs projected that in a few generations all of the people who hold that potential gene defect would be weeded out and the Antigen would be harmless. Luki thought it was all a bit morbid, but the presentation was soon over and the students were lined up and their blood types tested.
"This is so cool, can you imagine? All the super heroes in the world share the same blood type." Ali said.
"I don't think all of them," Luki answered, "It's just that blood type makes the most." They argued for a few moments before a teacher over heard and set them straight.
"Alistair is right; all blood types have the potential of making a super human."
"I'm not Alistair." Luki said in annoyance.
"Oh I'm sorry Lukas." The teacher blushed and looked away. Luki glared at her but said nothing else as the line moved. They'd been moved to the gym with the lines winding out of the double doors and onto the fields.
Ali was in front of Luki who kept quiet as the lines slowly moved. Luki watched as each kid in front of him got a read out, the machine flashed red and the doctor gave the kid a slip of paper and instructions to meet up with the other kids of the blood type they were. Finally his brother stuck out his hand and let the doctor prick his finger and scanned the small droplet. The machine was quiet for a brief few seconds before beeping a different beep and turned green. The doctor looked absolutely stunned.
"Uh... congratulations? You're AB Negative." He looked up as Dr. Sanders was standing behind him suddenly and glaring at the screen that read out Ali's blood type. After a moment she looked over to Ali with a thoughtful look.
"How old are you?"
"Thirteen," Ali said proudly, "We'll be fourteen in June."
"We?" Dr. Sanders asked with a raised eye brow. Ali nodded enthusiastically and pointed to Luki who waved awkwardly.
"Yeah, me and my twin brother, our birthday is June third; well Luki's is mine is the fourth. See he was born-" Ali cut off as Dr. Sanders grabbed Luki's hand and practically dragged him over to the table and pricked his finger before scanning the blood. Luki glared at her as he rubbed his wrist which was turning red.
The machine beeped and the light turned red as the screen read out O negative. Dr. Sanders turned to the boys. "You're identical aren't you?" Luki and Ali both nodded but said nothing, it suddenly felt like they were being scolded. Dr. Sanders stared at them for a good long while before turning away from them and called someone on her phone.
After a few short words she turned back to Ali and Luki and smiled a warm smile. "How would you two like to come to the Angel Wings Laboratory and meet real life super heroes?"
"Heck yeah!" Ali said over Luki saying, "No thanks."

This will have slow updates.
Three books later and you actually get some back story onto the origins and a name for the "magical cure all" that Angel Wings Labs poured into the water oh so long ago. And a bit more about the science of it all. This is sort of a off shoot you can read this first if it pleases you, in fact all of the Heroic Villains books can be read out of order, as it says in the description, though honestly I only recently took off which book was first or second.
Also the middle school's name is sort of a nod to my Dream Land series, if you read it you might or might not recognize it. Just depends on how closely you paid/pay attention when reading. And there is another thing in this chapter that is kind of an Easter egg. If you can find it comment or if you want to leave others guessing you can PM, I don't mind.
So yeah, enjoy the new book and don't forget to comment and vote you know I love it. <3
