Four Years Later
"Please Luki, I don't ask for much!" Ali begged with his hands clasped together and mushed against his nose as he bowed down on his knees. Lukas glared at him over his bowl of cereal.
"You ask something from me at least once a day, and I'm not going to your fencing match, again." He glared down at his fruit loops like they were the cause of all his problems.
"But I can't cancel again! I'll get kicked off the team!" Ali hopped up and hugged Luki's leg. Luki tried shrugging him off as if he were a horny dog humping his leg.
"Good, I'm tired of covering or you." Ali hopped up and instantly turned into a five year old.
"Mom! Luki's being mean and won't help me keep my super hero identity a secret!" Luki gave him a death glare as their mother stormed into the dining room and instantly started scolding Luki.
"Lukas Mayweather! You will help your brother and go to his fencing practice while he patrols the city and protects everyone or you're grounded for a month." Luki leaned over his bowl of cereal and frowned hard. "Actually, you never go anywhere." She paused, "I'll make you come to Bingo with me every Wednesday until you move out and go to college."
"Yeah, like I'm going to college, I'll be stuck with Ali for life; being his fucking puppet." Luki growled in annoyance.
"Watch you language young man." His mother warned.
"Oh, for fuck's sake! Why can't you blow off patrol? Let your hero do it?" Luki stood up and practically tossed his bowl of cereal into the sink. He stormed upstairs with Ali following close behind.
"He can't do it, he's got the meeting thing to go to; Mave's territory still needs a new hero. After uh... You know." Ali said awkwardly. Luki paused feeling his chest tighten at the mention of Mave. He was like a big brother to the twins for the few years they knew him. He trained Alistair and everyone had hoped he'd get back to work himself after he suddenly announced his retirement a day after the villain Vast fell into a coma. But he never went back to work.
Luki let out a sigh and groaned, rolling his eyes as he did, "Josh has been vying for Mave's territory since they were prompted. I don't want to move again. Why don't sidekicks have any say?" He asked as he stepped into the room he shared with Ali. Luki found it to be some practical joke, the government was paying for everything and yet they couldn't put them into a four room house; no a three room house. It was like Luki didn't exist.
"Spirit goes where Quake goes; it's how the super hero and sidekick dynamics works." Ali said with a shrug as he followed his brother.
"It's not fair is what it is." Luki argued as he walked over to the closet and dug through Ali's clothes. "Sidekicks should get a say in who they work with. Josh is an ass hole."
"Luki, don't talk bad about Josh, he already doesn't like you." Ali sighed as he flopped down in his desk chair and shook his head when Luki held up a shirt.
"I'm not going to spare that meat head's feelings. He can go fall off a cliff or get run over by a car for all I care." Luki said as he tossed the shirt and kept digging. "Hell he can bury himself in a pile of rubble and suffocate. Better yet I hope you drop him one of these days and he becomes a human pancake." Luki ranted.
"...You've put a lot of thought into this haven't you?" Ali observed. Luki paused and glared the pants he was holding.
"I don't like how he treats you. Always taking the credit and cropping you out of the glory."
"Luki, we've been over this. The media is the one that does that, not Josh." Ali laughed.
"It doesn't matter who's to blame, you do all the work!" Luki snapped, "You're the one going on patrol all the time and taking down bad guys and last week you fished that lump of meat out of the river because he can't swim!" Ali's laughter got louder as he nearly fell out of his chair.
"He's top heavy! Sinks like a rock!"
"Yeah, well everyone was embarrassed for him. Miss Fortune even got away. You can tell him he needs to get his act together if anyone is going to take him seriously without you there with him." Luki said as he settled on a white tee shirt, a black button down and dark wash jeans.
"I've got a debriefing after the meeting, it'll be tomorrow. You could always come with me and tell him yourself." Ali said as he gave his thumbs up for the outfit and a quick stupid grin. Luki roll his eyes as he looked into the mirror and fluffed his hair how Ali usually had it.
"Yeah, no; I hate going to the Labs, everyone staring at me like I'm a walking time bomb." Luki said and crossed his arms as he looked over to Ali.
"No one looks at you like that." Ali said as he inspected Luki's work to look like him, after a moment he nodded.
"Yeah I guess you're right." Luki sighed and Ali smiled proudly. "They're looking at me like I'm a dead man walking." Ali's smile faded and his pride deflated.
"Lukas, you need to stop being so pessimistic all the time. The white coats have said countless times your special; the Antigen is in you it's just not doing what everyone thinks it should be doing." Ali scolded as Luki tugged on a pair of Ali's shoes.
"Yeah, it should be killing me." Luki said with a sigh.
"You or the scientists don't know that for sure, just because your blood is O negative doesn't mean the Antigen is a death sentence, like maybe you don't have that mutation in your blood that kills others."
"Such a big word for little brother, did you look in a dictionary this morning?" He jokingly mocked. Luki yelped in surprise as Ali tackled him to the ground. "Ah! Alistair! Get off, I'm frail!" Luki whined as he struggled with his brother who had him pinned in two seconds flat.
Luki glared up at Ali's smug grin. "I will blow off the class." He warned and Ali jumped off his brother like he'd been burned.
"Mo-" Ali stared to call for their mom when Luki caught him by surprise and tackled him; they hit the floor hard and knocked over the lamp which also hit the floor, the bulb shattered.
"Boys! I swear if you're rough housing under my roof again you better be ready for an ass whooping!" Their mother called from down stairs. Both boys froze, mid-struggle.
"Uh..." Ali started.
"No!" Luki called down to his mom, "Just doing some-"
Ali cut him off, "Redecorating! The lamp looks much better on the floor; perfect mood lighting!" Ali dropped his voice then and looked at Luki, "Got to go, and good luck with class, try not to kill anyone." Luki glared at his brother as Ali hopped up, basically jumped out the window. Their room was on the second floor but it didn't matter, Ali could fly; well sort of, he used magnetic fields to levitate himself. Ali's powers were strange; he controlled power, literally power.
Kinetic power to be exact that included gravitational, chemical, nuclear, elastic, motion, and thermal. Basically if it had potential energy Ali could sap it and store it in his body for future use. So far all tests showed he didn't have a limit to how much power he could store. He can even store radiation so perfectly that he's not a danger to those around him.
Luki stayed on the floor staring at the window for a little while longer. After his self-pitying session was over he took the fencing outfit and left the house.
