The Curse Returns

Chapter 3

"Are you okay?" mom asks as she passes me some tissues. I wipe my tears and stare at the empty cup of tea. It's been almost 2 weeks since Claire's death and I haven’t gotten over it yet. Why do the good people always die first? Life is not fair. I get up to go to school.

"Will you be able to go to school today?" I nod and start to walk away. When I reach school my first class is English. I just sit and keep thinking about Claire. Until suddenly I feel someone shaking me aggressively. 

"Would you like to go to the clinic?" The teacher asks me.

 I get confused from the question. I look down and jump with the fear of what had just happened. The pages of my English book are soaked with blood. I run out of the classroom frightened. Blood runs down my mouth rapidly, I hurry to the bathroom and start rinsing my mouth. When I leave the bathroom the second class was already over. I grab my lunch and go to the cafeteria, when I reach there I find my group and I sit with them.

"What happened there? Are you sick or something?" Marry asks.

"I don't really know, but I'll be fine."

Everyone starts to speak about different subjectsand I instantly lose interest. I remember Claire's last words to me and I just wish that I stopped her before she pushed the knife into her chest. The tears challenge to stream down but I know that I'm strong enough. I start to feel dizzy and extremely nauseous.

"JULLIETTE!" Marry calls out loudly. I immediately look at her.

"Finally, I've been calling out your name for more than 4 times"

"I'm sorry I was just…"

"That doesn't matter now, could you please go and ask for more bread?"

"Sure."

I slowly get up and start to walk.

"Hurry up" she shouts out.

I literally run to the food table. I find the bread basket empty.

"Hello? Is anybody there?"

I decide to go into the kitchen and look for the worker. When I go into the back kitchen, He pops out of nowhere.

"Sorry sir, I just want some bread"

"It's okay, just wait here I will …" his voice disappears exactly at the second that I blink. I open my eyes and I see him suffering to breathe from the sac in his face. I'm holding the sac tight. I broaden my eyes and quickly remove the sac from the innocent man's face.

"I'm sorry sir, I'm very sorry" I sprint out of the kitchen and hurry to the cafeteria door. I hear Marry screaming out my name angrily.

"Juliette! Where's my bread?" Laughter fills up the room. I dash between different hallways. My heart pumps very fast, I feel it will rip out of my chest. I hold the tears and just try to focus on what had just happened. Could the curse be contagious? The thought of it makes my spine shiver of horror. I almost killed that innocent man.

"Juliette I'm sorry you can't be absent for school. It's been now almost a month since your best friend's death; this can't be an excuse anymore."

"But mom…"

"Enough Juliette"

I furiously clutch my backpack and exit the house. While I'm waiting I get a very weird feeling and everything that I look at my brain makes it look like a weapon to kill with. I realize that it's a bad idea to go to school. I must hide but it's too late because the bus had just arrived. The door slides open and I just try to make up my mind on whether I should go or not.

"you comin?"  The driver asks.

"Yes I'm coming"

"Okay then hurry up we ain't got all day"

 I step in and sit at the very end of the bus. Marry comes over and sits next to me.

"I'm really upset from you Juliette" she says.

"I'm so sorry"

"I forgive you this time, but you have to make it up to me."

"Certainly anything you ask"

"Since you're very good in math, you should do the homework for me."

I stare at her for a while. She hands me the pen and her homework sheet.

I take the pen and I start to stab her hand very aggressively. She cries out in pain and the bus stops. I get scandalized as I gaze at Marry's hand that has a deep hole in it.

"What have you done? You are such an idiot!" Lucy screams at my face.

I'm just out of words, and the weird thing is that it felt so good. But there's no way that I will hurt anyone again. I slowly go out of the bus and start to calmly walk. I have no idea where to go. I don't want to go home, afraid of what I might do to my parents. I just start to walk in random directions and after some hours I begin to feel tired and thirsty. I stop at a fast food restaurant to order a sandwich and a bottle of water. Luckily I got some money in my backpack. After I'm done I start my way to nowhere, a couple of hours pass and I realize I'm starting to leave the town.

The sun sets and I think of my parents and how worried they are now. I find a public library and decide to spend the night there. I grab a bunch of books and look for a place to hide in. I finally find the perfect place, behind the curtains which are behind the sofa. After a few more hours of reading the librarian switches the lights off and locks the door. I look at my watch to check the time and I find a mark on my wrist, a circle that has 2 different shades of red. What is that supposed to mean? I fall asleep over time.

"… If you see this picture of the missing teenager please contact the police as soon as possible"

I open my eyes and find my picture on television. This is ridiculous I went missing for less than a day and they are already looking for me. I watch the television for a few more minutes and when I look at the date, I panic and start to pack my things. I have been asleep for almost a week. How can this be possible? When I get on my feet I feel so wobbly and I almost faint. The old man that is sitting on the couch looks at me and I just punch him straight in his eye. I might've punched him a little too hard because his eye pops out. I look at my hand that is now full of blood and I see the mark it has another shade of blood on it.

"That's her!" someone screams. I instantly concentrate.

I run out of the library and I know that I can't walk anymore because my legs are still sore.
